Luxembourg 1. Division () is the third level in the league system of Luxembourg football. The competition There are 32 clubs in 1. Division, divided in two groups of 16 teams. At the end of each season the three lowest placed teams of each group are relegated to 2. Division and the six winning teams from the two 3. Division leagues are promoted in their place. Club Sportif Grevenmacher is a football club, based in Grevenmacher, in eastern Luxembourg. History The club was founded in 1909 as '' 'Stade Mosellan' ''. The current name of the club, '' 'CS Grevenmacher' '', was adopted in 1919. During the Nazi occupation of the Second World War, the club was renamed '' 'FK Grevenmacher' '', as part of Gauleiter Gustav Simon's policy of Germanisation. The club's name reverted to '' 'CS Grevenmacher' '' upon liberation in 1944. 1949–50 was the first season in which Grevenmacher played in the top league, the National Division. In 1950–51, the team reached the final of the Luxembourg Cup, but lost to SC Tétange in a replay. In the 1990s, Grevenmacher established themselves as one of the perennial challengers for trophies. Football Club Avenir Beggen is a football club, based in Beggen, a quarter of Luxembourg City, in southern Luxembourg. The club were founded in 1915 as FC Daring Beggen but changed their name to FC Avenir Beggen a year later. In 1940, they were renamed SV 1915 Beggen, but in 1944, it was changed again to FC Avenir Beggen. Avenir Beggen had played in the National Division in consecutive seasons since 1965–66, but were relegated in the 2005–06 season. Finishing second in their first season in the second-tier Division of Honour, Avenir returned to the National Division at the first time of asking. In 2008/09 the club finished 14th and were relegated back to the Luxembourg Division of Honour.
