Fred J. Luter Jr. (born 1956 November 11 in New Orleans) is a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). He was elected on 2012 June 19, and was SBC's first African-American president. According to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary president Daniel L. Akin, ". . . the most significant event to happen in our BC'shistory since our formation" is Luter's election. On June 20, the day after electing Luter, SBC voted to permit use of the designation "Great Commission" as an alternative to "Southern" for congregations desiring a break from the geographical and historical eponym. Nominated by David Crosby of New Orleans' First Baptist Church, Luter succeeded Bryant Wright of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia. Luter cited "to improve racial harmony" as his goal on his reelection to the second (and final) year of SBC presidency. On June 11, 2014, Dr. Ronnie Floyd of Cross Church in Arkansas succeeded Rev. Claude Luter (23 July 1923 – 6 October 2006) was a jazz clarinetist who doubled on soprano saxophone. Luter was born and died in Paris. He began on trumpet, but switched to clarinet. He might be best known for being an accompanist to Sidney Bechet when he was in Paris, but he also worked with Barney Bigard and French writer and musician Boris Vian. Darrell Akeem Luter Jr. (born April 24, 2000) is an American football cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at South Alabama. Early life Luter was born on April 24, 2000, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He attended Oak Grove High School and played football for three years, basketball for two years and track for one year. Despite many of his teammates being highly recruited (including six who signed with FBS teams), Luter was not, and eventually committed to Pearl River Community College. College career Luter played at Pearl River from 2018 to 2019, being named second-team all-conference as a sophomore. 247Sports ranked him a three-star junior college recruit and among the top 40 cornerbacks nationally, and after graduating from the school he signed with South Alabama. Milton W. Luter (born 1978), better known by the stage name Mick Luter, is an American rapper based in Chicago, Illinois. Early life Luter was born in Dallas, Texas. When he was 10 years old, his mother took him and his younger brother Victor back to her hometown of Chicago, Illinois, due to domestic conflicts. Luter graduated from Whitney Young Magnet High School in 1996. He went on to attend Temple University where he began rapping seriously, inspired by the local rap scene in Philadelphia. In the Summer of 1999, he met a young MC known as Wasalu, also known as Lupe Fiasco. The following Summer, in 2000, they both entered the 2000 Source Magazine Rap Battle.
