Operation LUSTY (LUftwaffe Secret TechnologY) was the United States Army Air Forces' effort to capture and evaluate German aeronautical technology during and after World War II. Overview During World War II, the U.S. Army Air Forces Intelligence Service sent teams to Europe to gain access to enemy aircraft, technical and scientific reports, research facilities, and weapons for study in the United States. The Air Technical Intelligence (ATI) teams, trained at the Technical Intelligence School at Wright Field, Ohio, collected enemy equipment to learn about Germany's technical developments. The ATI teams competed with 32 allied technical intelligence groups to gain information and equipment recovered from crash sites. As the war concluded, the various intelligence teams, including the ATI, shifted from tactical intelligence to post hostilities investigations. Exploitation intelligence increased dramatically. HMS Illustrious (R06)
HMS ''Illustrious'' was a light aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy and the second of three ships constructed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She was the fifth warship and second aircraft carrier to bear the name ''Illustrious'', and was affectionately known to her crew as ''"Lusty"''. In 1982, the conflict in the Falklands necessitated that ''Illustrious'' be completed and rushed south to join her sister ship and the veteran carrier . To this end, she was brought forward by three months for completion at Swan Hunter Shipyard, then commissioned on 20 June 1982 at sea en route to Portsmouth Dockyard to take on board extra stores and crew. She arrived in the Falklands to relieve ''Invincible'' on 28 August 1982 in a steam past. Returning to the United Kingdom, she was not formally commissioned into the fleet until 20 March 1983. Robert Lusty
Sir Robert Frith Lusty (1909 – 1991) was a British journalist and publisher. Robert Lusty was born in Cheltenham and educated at Sidcot School. He became an apprentice reporter at the ''Kent Messenger'' in 1927 but he was forced to resign because of heart problems. In 1928 he was taken on by Walter Hutchinson, the publisher. He learned the trade so well that in 1933 he was appointed manager of the associated company Selwyn & Blount. In 1935 he left to join Michael Joseph Ltd at its foundation by Michael Joseph and rose to the post of Deputy Chairman. In 1956 he returned to Hutchinson as Managing Director and remained there until his retirement in 1973.
