Lusory Attitude
The lusory attitude is the psychological attitude required of a player entering into the play of a game. To adopt a lusory attitude is to accept the arbitrary rules of a game in order to facilitate the resulting experience of play. The term was coined by Bernard Suits in the book ''The Grasshopper: Games, Life and Utopia'', first published in 1978, in which Suits defines the playing of a game as "the voluntary attempt to overcome unnecessary obstacles". Play is a range of intrinsically motivated activities done for recreational pleasure and enjoyment. Hangman is a guessing game for two or more players. One player thinks of a word, phrase or sentence and the other(s) tries to guess it by suggesting letters within a certain number of guesses. Originally a Paper-and-pencil game, there are now electronic versions.
