Lurline Hook
Lurline Elsie Hook (1915 – 11 March 1986) was an Australian diver who won a gold medal at the 1938 British Empire Games. She was Australian springboard champion in 1931 and six times New South Wales diving champion. The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games or simply the Comm Games, are a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The 1938 British Empire Games was the third British Empire Games, the event that evolved to become the Commonwealth Games. Held in Sydney, Australia from 5–12 February 1938, they were timed to coincide with Sydney's sesqui-centenary (150 years since the foundation of British settlement in Australia). Venues included the Sydney Cricket Ground (the main stadium), the Sydney Sports Ground, North Sydney Olympic Pool and Henson Park. An estimated 40,000 people attended the opening ceremony. A competitors' residential village was established within the grounds of the Sydney Showground. The star of the games was the Australian athlete Decima Norman, who won five gold medals in track and field. Hylton Davies
Hylton George Leslie "Heck" Davies (1915-1945) was an Australian AIF officer who fell in WWII during the Battle of Balikpapan. He had been a top-grade rugby league footballer who played for Newtown in the NSWRFL in the 1930s. Rugby career Davies played four seasons of first grade for Newtown between 1936 and 1939 before his war service. Military service Davies enlisted in the AIF in late 1939 and didn't play rugby league again. He attained the rank of captain in the Australian Army and he served in Great Britain, Syria, The Middle East, Kokoda Track, Lae and Borneo.
