Lurkmore
Lurkmore or Lurkomorye (russian: Луркоморье, a portmanteau of ''Lukomorye'' and the English online slang ''" lurk moar"'') was an informal Russian-language MediaWiki-powered online encyclopedia focusing on Internet subcultures, folklore, and memes. As of December 17, 2019, Lurkmore contained over 9000 articles. It is one of the most popular humor—as well as internet-meme-related—websites of the Russian Internet. Since February 24, 2022 (2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine) the website content is no longer available, with only a black screen showing up on all its pages. Recently, "stop the war" written in blue and yellow (national flag colors of Ukraine) appears atop the black screen. Content and style Lurkmore was started as a knowledge base of Internet memes centered on 2ch.ru, the first popular Russian-language imageboard. An imageboard is a type of Internet forum that focuses on the posting of images, often alongside text and discussion. The first imageboards were created in Japan as an extension of the textboard concept. These sites later inspired the creation of a number of English-language imageboards. Characteristics Imageboards, similar to bulletin board systems, are used for discussions of a variety of topics. The primary focus of imageboards, however, is directed away from text posts, and is instead placed on picture posts. The two share many of the same structures, including separate forums for separate topics, as well as similar audiences. Imageboards are much more transitory with content—on some boards (especially highly trafficked ones), the thread deletion time can be as little as 10 minutes. Encyclopedia Dramatica (ED; also spelled Encyclopædia Dramatica) is a satirical online community centered around a wiki that acts as a "troll archive". The site hosts racist material and shock content; as a result it was filtered from Google Search in 2010. It has been linked to one school shooting and participates in harassment campaigns. Its articles lampoon topics and current events related or relevant to contemporary internet culture in an encyclopedic fashion. Kashchenism (russian: кащенизм) is a specific style of conversation in Internet forum, forums and blogs used on Russia, Russian FidoNet and Internet. Its main feature is provocativeness and mockery while being formally polite. Historically, Kashchenist style uses many words and idioms of Jewish origin; in conversations, Kashchenists often pretend to be Jew, Jews, in order to Troll (Internet), troll anti-Semite, antisemites while also causing others to make excuses to prove that they are not antisemites. Kashchenist style also typically uses medical terms, especially from psychiatry; this is because Kashchenists consider themselves jocularly as "network psychiatrists", and imitate either medical staff or, conversely, patients in a mental hospital.
