Lure Of The Islands
''Lure of the Islands'' is a 1942 American adventure film directed by Jean Yarbrough and written by Edmond Kelso, George Bricker and Scott Littleton. The film stars Margie Hart, Robert Lowery, Guinn "Big Boy" Williams, Gale Storm, Ivan Lebedeff and Warren Hymer. The film was released on July 3, 1942, by Monogram Pictures. Plot In the South Pacific, undercover agents Wally and Jinx look for their local contact who was shot by the commandant, a Nazi, before he could pass details of a secret German/Japanese radio. Island girls under taboo, Tana and Maui, agree to help, but for a price – they want to get married! The Nazis kidnap the chief to force the natives to cut down trees to build an air field, but cutting the trees is forbidden. Wally and Jinx rescue the chief and a Japanese plane crashes in the trees that were never cut. The islanders are free from occupation, and the two couples leave with the help of a destroyer. Jean Yarbrough
Jean Yarbrough (August 22, 1901 – August 2, 1975) was an American film director. Biography Jean Yarbrough was born in Marianna, Arkansas on August 22, 1901. He attended the University of the South located in Sewanee, Tennessee. In 1922, Yarbrough entered the film business working in silent pictures, first as a "prop man" and later rising through the ranks to become an assistant director. By 1936, he was a bona fide director, first doing comedy and musical shorts for RKO which was founded by Joseph P. Kennedy among others. His directorial debut for a feature-length film was ''Rebellious Daughters'' which was made by the low-budget studio, Progressive Pictures in 1938. Tristram Chockley Coffin (August 13, 1909 – March 26, 1990) was a film and television actor from the latter 1930s through the 1970s, usually in westerns or other B-movie action-adventure productions. Kam Tong (December 18, 1906 – November 8, 1969) was a Chinese-American actor. He was best known for his role as Hey Boy on the CBS television series '' Have Gun, Will Travel'' and as Dr. Li in the film version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ''Flower Drum Song''. John Bleifer
John Melvin Bleifer (July 26, 1901 – January 24, 1992) was an American actor whose career began at the end of the silent film era, and lasted through the mid-1980s. He appeared in feature films and film serials, and in a number of television series and miniseries. Bleifer also acted on stage, and appeared in several Broadway productions. Life and career Over the course of his career, he would appear in well over 100 films, serials, television shows and Broadway plays. His European accent allowed him to play several different nationalities, while using essentially the same accent.
