''Lupin the 3rd Part II'' is a Japanese anime television series produced by TMS Entertainment. Part of the Lupin III, ''Lupin III'' franchise, it is the second anime television adaptation of the Lupin III (manga), ''Lupin III'' manga series created by Monkey Punch. Although originally broadcast as simply , the series is now often referred to as by Japanese fans. Among English-speaking fans, the series is commonly known as the "Red Jacket" series in reference to Lupin's outfit. The series contains 155 episodes which aired between October 3, 1977 and October 6, 1980, on the Japanese television network Nippon TV. Episodes 145 and 155 were the first to appear in the United States on VHS in 1994, released by Streamline Pictures separately under the title of ''Lupin III: Tales of the Wolf'', and together as ''Lupin III's Greatest Capers''. Monkey Punch
, known by the pen name , was a Japanese manga artist, best known for his series ''Lupin III''. Life and career Katō was born in Hamanaka, Hokkaido; he began drawing at a very young age, but did not draw manga until junior high school, when his manga strips were used in the school newspaper. After graduating, he moved to Tokyo to look for work and began going to a technical school for electronics, continuing to draw for fun. While working in a ''dōjinshi'' group with other artists, he was recruited by Futabasha and drew ''yonkoma''. He was an assistant to Naoki Tsuji on ''Zero-sen Hayato'' and ''Tiger Mask''. ''Lupin III'' made its debut on August 10, 1967, in the first issue of the magazine ''Weekly Manga Action''; the cover was also drawn by Monkey Punch. ''The Anime Encyclopedia: A Guide to Japanese Animation Since 1917'' is a 2001 encyclopedia written by Jonathan Clements and Helen McCarthy. It was published in 2001 by Stone Bridge Press in the United States, and a "revised and expanded" edition was released in 2006. In the United Kingdom, it was published by Titan Books. The third edition was released on 3 March 2015 with the subtitle of ''A Century of Japanese Animation''. It gives an overview of most of the famous anime works since 1917. Koichi Zenigata
, usually called and formerly Heiji Zenigata VII, is a fictional character created by Monkey Punch for his manga series ''Lupin III'', which debuted in ''Weekly Manga Action'' on August 10, 1967. He is named after the famous fictional Japanese detective Zenigata Heiji, of whom he is a descendant. He is the star of the live action ''Inspector Zenigata'' TV series and portrayed by Ryohei Suzuki, making it the second ''Lupin III''-based property not to star Lupin as the protagonist. Ishikawa Goemon
was a legendary Japanese outlaw hero who stole gold and other valuables to give to the poor. He and his son were boiled alive in public after their failed assassination attempt on the Sengoku period warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. His legend lives on in contemporary Japanese popular culture, often giving him greatly exaggerated ninja skills. Biography There is little historical information on Goemon's life, and as he has become a folk hero, his background and origins have been widely speculated upon. In his first appearance in the historical annals, in the 1642 biography of Hideyoshi, Goemon was referred to simply as a thief. She is a professional criminal who regularly uses her attractiveness to fool her targets. is a fictional character created by Monkey Punch for his manga series ''Lupin III'', which debuted in ''Weekly Manga Action'' on August 10, 1967. Jigen is the marksman, aide-de-camp and best friend of Arsène Lupin III. Along with colleague Goemon Ishikawa XIII, he joins Lupin in pursuit of riches acquired typically by theft. Traveling across the globe, Jigen has garnered fame as a gunman with a wildly capable speed and accuracy.
