Luna Publications
Luna Publications is a literary publishing company located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 2006 by Goran Simic, a writer of poetry, essays, short stories and theatre. His associates include business partner Vishja Brcic, editor Fraser Sutherland, and designer Shaun Tai. On Wednesday, September 26, 2007, Luna Publications launched ''Ceasefire in Purgatory'', Irish-Canadian poet and literary translator Colin Carberry's second collection of poetry, at The Dora Keogh Irish Pub. Previous Luna Publications titles include ''Making Bones Walk'', by Canada's Alex Boyd (2007); and Chilean-US poet and publisher Mariela Griffor's ''Exiliana'' (2006). New releases by Iranian-US author Fereshteh Molavi, and Serbian-Canadian author Nenad Jovanovic were in the planning stages but as of 2015 there is no indication these titles were published or that the company is still in business. Goran Simić (poet)
Goran Simić (born 1952) is a Serbian-Canadian poet from Bosnia and Herzegovina, recognized internationally for his works of poetry, essays, short stories and theatre. Biography Simić was born in Vlasenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1952 and has written eleven volumes of poetry, drama and short fiction, including ''Sprinting from the Graveyard'' (Oxford, 1997). His work has been translated into nine languages and has been published and performed in several European countries. One of the most prominent writers of the former Yugoslavia, Simić was trapped in the Siege of Sarajevo. In 1995 he and his family were able to settle in Canada as the result of a Freedom to Write Award from PEN. ''Immigrant Blues'' was Simic's second full-length volume of poems in English, and the first to be published in Canada. Alex Boyd (author)
Alex Boyd (born 1969) is a Canadian poet, essayist, editor, and critic. His essays and articles have appeared in the ''Globe and Mail'', and elsewhere. His first book of poems, Making Bones Walk, was published in 2007. From 2003 to 2008, he hosted the IV Lounge Reading Series in Toronto, presenting fiction readers alongside poets, and eventually co-editing IV Lounge Nights, an anthology to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the series. He established ''Northern Poetry Review'', a site for poetry articles and reviews, in April 2006. In 2008, he established Digital Popcorn, a site for personal film reviews, and has helped launch the ''Best Canadian Essays'' series with Tightrope Books, co-editing the first two collections. His second book of poems ''The Least Important Man'' was published by Biblioasis in 2012, and his first novel ''Army of the Brave and Accidental'', a retelling of ''The Odyssey'' as modern mythology, was published in 2018 with Nightwood Editions. Mariela Griffor
Mariela Griffor (born September 29, 1961, in Concepcion, Chile), is a poet, editor, publisher of Marick Press and diplomat. She is author of four poetry collections, ''Exiliana'', ''House'', ''The Psychiatrist'' and most recently, ''Declassified'' (Eyewear Publishing, 2016), and has had her poems and translations published in many literary journals and magazines including ''Poetry International, Washington Square Review, Texas Poetry Review, and Éditions d'art Le Sabord'', in anthologies including ''Poetry in Michigan / Michigan in Poetry'', from New Issues Press. A variety of Griffor's poems has been translated into Italian, French, Chinese, Swedish, and Spanish. She has been nominated to the Griffin Poetry Prize, to the Whiting Awards and the PEN/Beyond Margins Award. Fereshteh Molavi ( fa, فرشته مولوی) (born 19 September 1953, Tehran) is an Iranian-Canadian fiction writer and essayist. She is also a renowned scholar and translator. Biography Born in Tehran a month after the coup in 1953, she was raised and worked there as a writer, editor, translator, and research librarian until 1998. The League of Canadian Poets (LCP), founded in 1966, is a national non-profit arts service organization based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The organization acts as the national association of professional and aspiring poets in Canada. The League counts Phyllis Webb, Robert Kroetsch, Susan McCaslin, Barry Dempster, Gay Allison, Micheline Maylor and Margaret Atwood among its membership; it provides funding for poetry readings and competitions, hosts an annual AGM, runs a series of awards, and publishes an electronic newsletter.
