Lumphanan Railway Station
Lumphanan ( ; gd, Lann Fhìonain) is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland located from Aberdeen and from Banchory. History Lumphanan is documented to be the site of the Battle of Lumphanan of 1057 AD, where Malcolm III of Scotland defeated Macbeth of Scotland. Macbeth was mortally wounded on the north side of the Mounth in 1057, after retreating with his men over the Cairnamounth Pass to take his last stand at the battle at Lumphanan. The ''Prophecy of Berchán'' has it that he was wounded at Lumphanan and died at Scone, to the south, some days later. Mac Bethad's stepson Lulach mac Gille Coemgáin was installed as king soon after. The nearby Peel of Lumphanan was built in the early 13th century, and is a good surviving example of an earthwork castle. This site was used in the filming of the 1984 children's TV series ''The Box of Delights'', which was based on John Masefield's fantasy novel of the same name. Aberdeenshire
Aberdeenshire ( sco, Aiberdeenshire; gd, Siorrachd Obar Dheathain) is one of the 32 Subdivisions of Scotland#council areas of Scotland, council areas of Scotland. It takes its name from the County of Aberdeen which has substantially different boundaries. The Aberdeenshire Council area includes all of the area of the Counties of Scotland, historic counties of Aberdeenshire and Kincardineshire (except the area making up the City of Aberdeen), as well as part of Banffshire. Corse Castle
Corse Castle near Lumphanan in Aberdeenshire, now ruined, was a fortress and centre of a landed estate in the north-east of Scotland. The present castle dates from the 16th century and stands by the Corse Burn, around north-west of Lumphanan. Corse was a property of the Forbes family. In the 16th century, the original house on the site was destroyed by bandits in a raid. The laird of the day, Sir William Forbes, is reputed to have said of his projected new castle "Please God I will build me such a house as thieves will need to knock at ere they enter." He went on to erect the present castle, which bears his initials, with the date 1581. William Forbes had seven sons, of whom the eldest, Patrick (1564–1635), was born at the castle before the rebuilding. In 1618 he was appointed Bishop of Aberdeen, serving until his death. Tom Mason (Scottish Politician)
Thomas Gee Mason (born 31 December 1942) is a retired Scottish Conservative Party politician, who was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the North East Scotland region. Mason was sworn in on 20 June 2017, following the resignation of Ross Thomson. He stood down at the 2021 election. He was educated at King's College London (BSc, 1964) and the Cranfield School of Management (MBA 1972). Mason is also a councillor on Aberdeen City Council. Bill Bowman (Scottish Politician)
William Archibald Bowman (born 30 May 1950) is a Scottish Conservative Party politician who served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the North East Scotland region from December 2016 until he stood down at the 2021 election. Born in Glasgow, Bowman was privately educated at the High School of Glasgow and George Watson's College. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1973 and received accreditation as a chartered accountant in 1976. He subsequently joined accounting firm Peat Marwick, the predecessor of KPMG, working successively in their Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices until 2001. Peter John Chapman MSP (born 13 May 1950) is a retired Scottish Conservative and Unionist politician. North East Scotland is one of the eight electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament which were created in 1999. Ballater Railway Station
Ballater railway station is a former station in the village of Ballater in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The station was formerly the terminus of a branch line from Aberdeen railway station, Aberdeen. It was the nearest station to Balmoral Castle, a personal residence of the British monarch. History Opened on 17 October 1866 by the Aboyne and Braemar Railway this was the third of a series of openings (Aboyne to Ballater), by three different companies to connect Ballater with Aberdeen, the others were Aboyne to Banchory by the Deeside Extension Railway and Banchory to Aberdeen by the Deeside Railway.
