Lumi (software)
lumi is a free, open source and open development software project for the analysis and comprehension of Illumina expression and methylation microarray data. The project was started in the summer of 2006 and set out to provide algorithms and data management tools of Illumina in the framework of Bioconductor. It is based on the statistical R programming language. Features The lumi package provides an analysis pipeline for probe-level Illumina expression and methylation microarray data, including probe-identifier management ( nuID), updated probe-to-gene mapping and annotation using the latest release of RefSeq (nuIDblast), probe-intensity transformation (VST) and normalization (RSN), quality control (QA/QC) and preprocessing methods specific for Illumina methylation data. By extending the ExprSet object with Illumina-specific features, lumi is designed to work with other Bioconductor packages, such as Limma and GOstats to detect differential genes and conduct Gene Ontology analysis ...

Salmo Lumi
''Salmo lumi'' is a type of trout, a fish in the family Salmonidae. It is endemism, endemic to Lake Ohrid and its tributaries in Albania and North Macedonia. ''Salmo lumi'' is one of four different forms of the Ohrid trout complex within Lake Ohrid, along with ''Salmo letnica'', ''Salmo balcanicus'' and ''Salmo aphelios''. There are however no known morphological characters that would clearly distinguish it from the others. The head and body of these trout are silver in colour, with black dots. Red dots occur along the lateral line. ''Salmo lumi'' can grow to 38 cm length. The various trout of Ohrid are distinguished by their breeding time and habitat, and they are thus in practice reproductively isolated from each other. ''Salmo lumi'' specifically spawns from January to February in the tributaries of the lake. In the lake it lives at 60–80 m depths. Its status as a distinct species is not yet confirmed by molecular methods.

Lumi (company)
Lumi is a Los Angeles-based company founded by Jesse Genet and Stephan Ango that offers packaging and supply chain management software. The company got its start developing Inkodye, a photo-reactive vat dye that develops its color through exposure to UV or sunlight. History Jesse Genet began experimenting with different printing techniques as a teenager in 2004, attempting to print photographs on cotton T-shirts. Unsatisfied with the results of screen printing and dye-sublimation she pursued her research and found what became a precursor to Inkodye, a chemical formula from the 1950s owned by a retired engineer. After meeting Stephan Ango while studying at Art Center College of Design, the pair acquired the chemical formula and began modernizing it. Lumi launched a Kickstarter campaign in December 2009 to fund R&D of the technology. The company raised $13,597 and rewarded its backers with wallets, bags and other products printed using the process. The project was an early succe ...

Lumi River (East Africa)
The River Lumi (also Lomi or Luffu) is located in Rombo District, Kilimanjaro in northereast Tanzania and a small part in southern Kenya in Coast Province. It originates on the east side of Mawenzi peak on the east side of (Mount Kilimanjaro), and flows so close to the River Rombo as almost to form a fork. The Lumi, however, maintains its southerly direction, and may thus be said to represent the upper course of the Ruvu, one of tho two main sources of the Pangani River. It flows around the Lake Chala and the Taveta town in the west and empties into the Lake Jipe. The fish species ''Barbus'' sp. 'Pangani' has only been found in the river's N'joro Springs, situated in the upper Pangani River drainage basin. Wetland management Most water taken from the Lumi is from the section that flows through Kenya. After the building of several dams along the Kenyan side of the Lumi, and with several periods of reduced rainfall, the dry up of Lake Jipe became a concern, necessitating wetl ...

Lumi Masking
Lumi masking (derived from luminance), also known as psychovisual enhancements or adaptive quantization, is a technique used by video compression software, which reduces quality in very bright or very dark areas of the picture, as quality loss in these areas is less likely to be visible. The reduction in quality (and therefore bit rate) in certain areas of the picture caused by using lumi masking allows more bits to be allocated to the rest of the video, thus improving overall quality. Lumi masking is not perfect, however, and in some cases the degradation in quality it causes is visible. See also * Subjective video quality Subjective video quality is video quality as experienced by humans. It is concerned with how video is perceived by a viewer (also called "observer" or "subject") and designates their opinion on a particular video sequence. It is related to the fiel ...
