The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the New Zealand soap opera '' Shortland Street'' in 1995, by order of first appearance. Lulu Chatfield Lulu Chatfield first arrived in early 1995, having become good friends with Stuart Neilson ( Martin Henderson) after his short holiday away from Ferndale. It was soon revealed Lulu was a teenage runaway, having been sexually abused by her father. Stuart's mother Marj (Elizabeth McRae) fostered Lulu alongside her husband Laurie (Chich Littlewood) and Lulu became good friends with Minnie Crozier ( Katrina Devine). Lulu began to date James Thornton (Chris Dykzeul) but was devastated when her father was acquitted of his charges of molestation and tried to hunt her down. Toni Warner
Antoinette "Toni" Warner (née Thompson, formerly McAllister) is a fictional character on the New Zealand soap opera '' Shortland Street'' who was portrayed by Laura Hill from 2001 until 2008. In 2008, Toni became the first character on the show to give birth, get married and die on screen. Creation and casting Following the departures of Rachel McKenna (Angela Bloomfield), Ellen Crozier ( Robyn Malcolm), Kirsty Knight (Angela Dotchin), Jenny Harrison (Maggie Harper) and the axing of David Kearney ( Peter Elliott), in 1998 and 1999, ratings for the show dropped dramatically in 2000 and producers decided to reinvent the show to boost audience interest. Rachel McKenna Rachel McKenna was the spoilt teenage daughter of CEO - Michael ( Paul Gittins) and Alex McKenna ( Liddy Holloway). Chris Warner
Christopher Alexander Warner is a fictional character on the New Zealand soap opera ''Shortland Street'' who has been portrayed by Michael Galvin since the show's first episode, making him the longest running original character. Galvin quit the show in 1996, but returned to the show four years later when the show underwent a revamp. In total he has been with Shortland Street for 26 of its 30 years. Affectionately referred to by fans and the media as "Dr Love", Chris made his first appearance in the show's first episode by having an affair with his aerobics instructor. This was an infamous and controversial scene.
