Lula Ferreira
Aluísio ("Lula") Elias Ferreira Xavier, commonly known as Lula Ferreira (born January 2, 1951 in São Paulo), is a Brazilian professional basketball coach. Coaching career Clubs During his professional club head coaching career, Ferreira coached several clubs in Brazil's top-level league, the New Basket Brazil (NBB), including clubs like Universo BRB and Franca. As a head coach, he won the Brazilian Championship in 2003, and the São Paulo State Championship five times, in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. He also won the FIBA Americas League championship in 2009. He was the Brazilian League Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2013. 2006 FIBA World Championship
The 2006 FIBA World Championship was the 15th FIBA World Championship, the international basketball world championship for men's national teams. The tournament was hosted by Japan and held from 19 August to 3 September 2006. It was co-organised by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Japan Basketball Association (JABBA) and the 2006 Organising Committee. For the first time since 1986, the World Championship was contested by 24 nations, eight more than in 2002. As a result, group rounds were conducted in four cities, with the knockout rounds being hosted by Saitama City. Spain won the tournament by beating Greece 70–47 in the championship final. Spain won all nine games they played. Spain's gold medal in this tournament was the first medal Spain had ever won in a FIBA World Championship. Basketball at the 2007 Pan American Games took place at the indoor arena in the Autódromo de Jacarépagua in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, an arena which was built specially for the Pan Am Games. Brazil was the reigning Pan American champion in the men's competition, while Cuba defended its title in the women's competition. Each competition had eight teams divided in two groups. In each group, each team played against all others once and the two best advanced to the semifinals. The two latter in each group played in 5th to 8th classification matches. The 2005 FIBA Americas Championship, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup (also known as The Tournament of the Americas), was hosted by the Dominican Republic, from August 24, to September 4, 2005.
