Adrian Lukis
Adrian Leonard Fellowes Lukis (born 28 March 1957) is an English actor who has appeared regularly in British television drama since the late 1980s. His most recent notable appearances have been as Sergeant Doug Wright in the police drama series ''The Bill'' and as Marc Thompson in the BBC legal drama ''Judge John Deed''. Background Lukis is descended from the Channel Islands archaeologist Frederick Lukis. Lukis was educated at Mount House School (now known as Mount Kelly), in Tavistock, Devon and Wellington College. Career Lukis had roles as a regular in the 2nd series of ''Chandler & Co'' (1995), playing Mark Judd, and in ''Peak Practice'' (1997-1999), playing Dr David Shearer. He played Mr. George Wickham in the BBC's 1995 adaption of Jane Austen's ''Pride and Prejudice''. Frank Lukis
Air Commodore Francis William Fellowes (Frank) Lukis, CBE (27 July 1896 – 18 February 1966) was a senior commander in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). A veteran of World War I, he first saw combat as a soldier in the Australian Imperial Force at Gallipoli. In 1917, Lukis transferred to the Australian Flying Corps and flew with No. 1 Squadron in the Middle East, where he was twice mentioned in despatches. A member of the Australian Air Corps following the war, he transferred to the fledgling RAAF in 1921, and became the first commanding officer of the newly re-formed No. 3 Squadron at RAAF Station Richmond, New South Wales, in 1925. Lukis went on to lead No. 1 Squadron in the early 1930s, and was promoted to group captain in 1938. Appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire the same year, he was in charge of RAAF Station Laverton, Victoria, during the early years of World War II. Frederick Lukis
Frederick Corbin Lukis (24 February 1788 – 15 November 1871) was a British archaeologist, naturalist, collector, and antiquarian. Background Lukis was born in La Grange, Saint Peter Port, Guernsey. He was the youngest of the four children of Sarah ( née Collings; 1749–1816) and Captain John Lukis (1753–1832). His father was a member of the Royal Guernsey militia who made a fortune in the "slightly murky world" of privateering and importing expensive wine. Already in his youth Lukis became interested in natural history, and probably attended Elizabeth College. Career He was strongly influenced by his elderly relative, the botanist Joshua Gosselin (1739–1813), who took him to his first excavation at a recently discovered artificial cavern. The experience triggered a lifelong passion for the protection of the island's heritage. Mollie Lukis
Meroula ("Mollie") Frances Fellowes Lukis (13 August 1912 – 1 August 2009) was a prominent Western Australian archivist and promoter of women's rights. Lukis was born in Balingup, Western Australia in 1912. She attended St Mary's Church of England School in Perth and the University of Western Australia from where she graduated with Honours in 1932. She gained a Diploma of Teaching the following year and worked as a teacher in Perth, Victoria and England from 1932 to 1940. During the Second World War she worked at the Munitions Supply Laboratories in Victoria. In 1945, State Librarian James Battye chose her to lead the state's archive branch, making her Australia's first female State Archivist. She was strongly influenced by the American archival theorist Theodore Schellenberg, whom she met during his 1954 Australian tour. Pardey Lukis
Sir Charles Pardey Lukis (1857 – 22 October 1917) was the inaugural editor of the ''Indian Journal of Medical Research'' and served as the Director-General of the Indian Medical Service (1910–1917). Pardey was also a strong supporter of the establishment of the Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine, though he did not live to see it open in 1921. He received his medical training at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1890. The same year, he entered the Bengal Army and served and worked in India for the remainder of his career, though he was awarded his MD from the University of London in 1904. He was appointed as a professor of medicine in Calcutta in 1905 and became honorary surgeon to the Viceroy of India the same year. William Collings Lukis
Rev. William Collings Lukis MA. FSA (8 April 1817 in Guernsey – 7 December 1892 in Wath, North Riding of Yorkshire) was a British antiquarian, archeologist and polymath. William Collings Lukis was the third son of Frederick Corbin Lukis, the Colonel of Guernsey Militia. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was married to Lucy Adelaide, daughter of Admiral Sir Thomas Fellowes. Lukis is best remembered in England for his work on Church Bells which was published in 1857. He was the first person to publish a collection of bell descriptions, chiefly from Wiltshire. He was a founder member of the Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Society and an authority on perspective drawing. It is his drawings of the Saxon church in Bradford on Avon, where he was curate from 1841 to 1846, that formed the basis for the illustrations for WH Jones's article on the Saxon Church in WAM V, and acknowledged by Jones in WAM XIII.
