Luis Santana (boxer)
Luis Santana (born November 19, 1958 in La Romana, Dominican Republic), is a retired professional boxer who fought in the super welterweight (154 lb) division. He was the World Boxing Council's world Super Welterweight champion. Career Santana turned pro in 1981 and challenged Simon Brown for the IBF Welterweight Title in 1989, but lost a unanimous decision. In 1994 he got another title shot against WBC Light Middleweight Title holder Terry Norris and won the title when Norris was disqualified in the 5th round for downing Santana with an illegal blow to the back of the head or rabbit punch. After a lengthy delay, the ringside doctor ruled Santana unable to continue. Norris, along with some media members, believed that Santana was faking the injury in order to win the championship and presumably, a rematch fight with Norris. Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. Shawn O'Sullivan (born May 9, 1962 in Toronto, Ontario) is a retired Canadian boxer who won gold at the World Amateur Championships in 1981 and the light middleweight silver medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. SS Admiral (1907)
SS ''Admiral'' was an excursion steamboat operating on the Mississippi River from the Port of St. Louis, Missouri from 1940 to 1978. The ship was briefly re-purposed as an amusement center in 1987 and converted to a gambling venue called President Casino, also known as Admiral Casino, in the 1990s. The Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden is a theater located in New York City's Madison Square Garden. Aaron Davis (born April 8, 1967, in the Bronx, New York, United States) is a former professional boxer who was the welterweight champion of the world. Professional career Davis, known as "Superman", turned pro in 1986 and won his first 32 fights, including a 9th-round KO upset over Mark Breland to capture the WBA Welterweight Title in 1990. In 1993 he challenged Julio César Vásquez for the WBA Light Middleweight Title, but lost a close decision. He would never again fight for a major title, and he retired in 2002. Amateur career Davis won the 1986 New York Golden Gloves 147 lb Open Championship. Davis defeated Maurice Donovan of the Knights Community Center in the finals to win the Championship. The Blue Horizon is a historic 1,346-seat former boxing venue in Philadelphia. ''The Ring'' magazine voted it the number-one boxing venue in the world, and ''Sports Illustrated'' noted it as the last great boxing venue in the country. The Blue Horizon was originally constructed as three four-story Second Empire style houses in 1865. Originally built to house the nouveau riche, the properties were eventually sold to the Loyal Order of Moose. Architect Carl Berger oversaw the 1914 alterations to house the fraternal lodge, adding a ballroom, bar, and auditorium. Lodge #54, located at 1312-1316 North Broad Street had over 20,000 members by 1920, at that point the highest membership of any fraternal lodge in the world. Vincent Pettway (born November 9, 1965) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1984 to 2001, holding the in the IBF light middleweight title from 1994 to 1995. Professional career Known as "The Ambassador," Pettway turned pro in 1984, and won the USBA light middleweight title in 1992 with a points win over Gilbert Baptist. He challenged Gianfranco Rosi for the IBF light middleweight Title in 1994 in a bout that was ruled a sixth round technical draw. Later that year, Pettway got a second shot at Rosi and won via a fourth round KO. The MassMutual Center (formerly Springfield Civic Center) is a multi-purpose arena and convention center complex located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts, in the city's Metro Center.
