Luis Petri
Luis Alfonso Petri (born 1 April 1977) is an Argentine politician who is serving as the country's Minister of Defense since 2023 under president Javier Milei. Previously, from 2013 to 2021, he was a National Deputy elected in Mendoza Province. Prior to serving as a member of the National Congress, he was a member of the Legislature of Mendoza from 2006 to 2013. He was Patricia Bullrich's running mate in the 2023 presidential election, running as part of the "Force of Change" list within the Juntos por el Cambio coalition, coming third in the first round. Early life and education Petri was born on 1 April 1977 in San Martín, Mendoza. He studied law at the National University of the Littoral (UNL), later working as a private lawyer at his own firm. 2013 Argentine Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Argentina on 27 October 2013. Open primary elections (PASO) were previously held on 11 August 2013 to determine eligible party lists for the general election. As in 2011 – when such primaries were held for the first time – each party list had to reach a 1.5% threshold at the provincial level in order to proceed to the 27 October polls. The elections renewed half of the members of the Chamber of Deputies for the period 2013–2017 and a third of the members of the Senate for the period 2013–2019. The blanket primary is a system used for selecting political party candidates in a primary election, used in Argentina and historically in the United States. In a blanket primary, voters may pick one candidate for each office without regard to party lines; for instance, a voter might select a Democratic candidate for governor and a Republican candidate for senator. In a traditional blanket primary the candidates with the highest number of votes for each office ''in each party'' advance to the general election, as the respective party's nominee. Alfredo Cornejo (born 20 March 1962) is an Argentine politician. As president of its national committee, he leads the Radical Civic Union (UCR). He was Governor of Mendoza Province from 2015 to 2019. The abortion law was liberalized after the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Bill (Argentina) was passed by the National Congress in December 2020.
