Luis Gómez Carreño
Luis Esteban Gómez Carreño (26 January 1865, isla Guar – 6 January 1930) was a Chilean naval officer. Having joined the navy aged 15 on board the ''Huáscar'', he later served as squadron commander in chief, director of the Naval School and Minister of War and the Navy under the September Junta. He was involved in a car accident on one of the bends of the 'El Olivar' road between Quilpué and Viña del Mar on 1 January 1930 and died 5 days later. Huáscar (ironclad)
''Huáscar'' is an ironclad turret ship owned by the Chilean Navy built in 1865 for the Peruvian government. It is named after the 16th-century Inca emperor, Huáscar. She was the flagship of the Peruvian Navy and participated in the Battle of Pacocha and the War of the Pacific of 1879–1883. At the Battle of Angamos, Huáscar, captained by renowned Peruvian naval officer Miguel Grau Seminario, was captured by the Chilean fleet and commissioned into the Chilean Navy. Today Huáscar is one of the few surviving ships of her type. She has been restored and is a memorial ship anchored in Talcahuano, Chile. Huáscar is the second oldest armored warship afloat after HMS Warrior (1860), and the oldest monitor afloat. Government Junta of Chile (September 11, 1924 - January 23, 1925), (also known as the ''September Junta'') was the political structure established to rule Chile following the anti-conservative military coup that assumed power after first interfering in progressive President Arturo Alessandri's deadlocked government. It ruled the country until it was ousted by yet another military coup, and gave way to the January Junta. Creation During most of 1924, Chile had been politically paralyzed by a conflict between the President and the conservatively controlled congress, who refused to discuss the laws that he sent them. Quilpué
Quilpué is a city and capital of the Marga Marga Province in central Chile's Valparaíso Region. It is part of the Greater Valparaíso metropolitan area. It is widely known as "City of the Sun" (''Ciudad del Sol'') and the urban part of it also comprises the town of El Belloto, an area that showed rapid growth in the late 1990s. Etymology There are various theories about the origin of the word ''Quilpué''. According to some, ''Quilpué'' means ''place where there are pigeons'', arguing that pigeons were found abundantly in the area and that the name derives from the aboriginal words ''cullpo'' (''dove'') and ''hue'' (''place''). Other authors suggest that it means ''place of the stone lancet'', because the Picunches (the indigenous Mapuche people) were experts in the manufacture of these items that were used for medical procedures. Viña Del Mar
Viña del Mar (; meaning "Vineyard of the Sea") is a city and commune on central Chile's Pacific coast.
