The 9th Lo Nuestro Awards ceremony, presented by Univision honoring the best Latin music of 1996 and 1997 took place on May 8, 1997, at a live presentation held at the James L. The Lo Nuestro Award for Tropical/Salsa New Artist of the Year is an honor presented annually by American network Univision.
