Luis Armando Bambarén Gastelumendi
Luis Armando Bambarén Gastelumendi, SJ (14 January 1928 – 19 March 2021) was a Peruvian Roman Catholic Bishop of Chimbote from 1967 till his retirement in 2004 and former president of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference. Early life He was born on January 14, 1928, in the Ancash city of Yungay, in a deeply Catholic home made up of his parents Alfredo and Luisa. Bambarén was the fifth of eight siblings, two of whom were also religious. He completed his primary studies in his hometown, and secondary at the Colegio de la Inmaculada in Lima. Bambarén began his religious life in the Jesuit novitiate on April 20, 1944, following studies of letters until he left for Spain in 1949 to study philosophy. Then he practiced teaching in Lima from 1952 to 1955, continuing his studies at the Faculty of Theology of Granada in Spain. Peruvians ( es, peruanos) are the citizens of Peru. There were Andean and coastal ancient civilizations like Caral, which inhabited what is now Peruvian territory for several millennia before the Spanish conquest in the 16th century; Peruvian population decreased from an estimated 5–9 million in the 1520s to around 600,000 in 1620 mainly because of infectious diseases carried by the Spanish. COVID-19 Pandemic In Peru
The COVID-19 pandemic in Peru has resulted in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths. The virus spread to Peru on 6 March 2020, when a 25-year-old man who had travelled to Spain, France, and the Czech Republic tested positive. Augusto Vargas Alzamora
Augusto Vargas Alzamora S.J. (9 November 1922 – 4 September 2000) was a Cardinal Priest and Archbishop of Lima in the Roman Catholic Church. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1940. He studied at the Jesuit Philosophical Faculty in San Miguel, Argentina and Madrid. He continued his studies in Granada, Spain and the University of San Marcos, Lima, where he received his doctorate in education. Pope Paul VI appointed him titular bishop of Cissi and apostolic vicar of Jaén, Peru on 8 June 1978. In 1982 he was elected secretary general of the Episcopal conference of Peru, and was reelected twice more. He was to become its president from 1993 to 1999. Alejandro Celestino Toledo Manrique (; born 28 March 1946) is a Peruvian politician who served President of Peru, from 2001 to 2006. He gained international prominence after leading the opposition against president Alberto Fujimori, who held the presidency from 1990 to 2000. Juan Velasco Alvarado
Juan Francisco Velasco Alvarado (June 16, 1910 – December 24, 1977) was a Peruvian general who served as the President of Peru after a successful coup d'état against Fernando Belaúnde's presidency in 1968. Under his presidency, nationalism, as well as left-leaning policies that addressed Indigenous Peruvians, such as nationalization or agrarian reform were adopted. These policies were reversed after another coup d'état in 1975 led by his Prime Minister, Francisco Morales-Bermúdez. Velasco had a confrontational foreign policy towards the United States, as he pushed for renegotiation of treaties and criticized what he perceived as a pernicious dependence of Latin American states on the United States. Villa El Salvador
Villa El Salvador (VES) is an urban, largely residential coastal district on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. It borders the district of Chorrillos on the east; the Pacific Ocean on the southwest; Lurín on the southeast; Villa María del Triunfo on the east and San Juan de Miraflores on the north. History Villa El Salvador began in 1971 as a squatted pueblo joven (or shanty town) in the vast, empty sand flats to the south of Lima because of the urgent housing needs of immigrant families who had left the sierra of central Peru. A land invasion quickly created a town of 25,000 people. By 2008, it had grown to 350,000 people.
