Luino–Milan Railway
Luino–Milan railway is a railway line in Lombardy, Italy. It uses the tracks of the Milan–Arona railway until Gallarate. The railway line was opened on 17 March 1884, to provide, together with the Luino–Oleggio railway, a second access to the Gotthard railway. Milano Porta Garibaldi is a major railway station in the Italian city of Milan, located just to the north of the neighbourhood known as ''Porta Garibaldi''. ''Porta Garibaldi'' is the city's main station for commuter traffic with 25 million passengers annually, although it is second to Centrale station considering total passenger traffic. Trenord is a railway company which is responsible for the operation of regional passenger trains in Lombardy. The company was established by the two main railway companies in Lombardy, Trenitalia and Ferrovie Nord Milano (FNM), to manage train operations in the region. The equity is equally divided between the two companies. History ''Trenitalia LeNord'' (TLN) was founded in Milan on 4 August 2009 from the merging of LeNord, company owned by FNM, and the Lombardy regional division of Trenitalia. The Domodossola–Milan railway line is a major Italian railway route and an important part of the European rail network. It is one of Italy's busiest lines for both passenger and freight trains. The line connects Milan and Domodossola with Brig, an important Swiss railway junction, via the Simplon Tunnel. Gallarate (; Lombard: ''Galaraa'') is a city and ''comune'' of Alto Milanese of Lombardy and of Milan metropolitan area, northern Italy, in the Province of Varese. Luino–Oleggio railway is a railway line in Lombardy, Italy. The railway line was opened on 4 December 1882, in order to provide a second access to the Gotthard railway. The Novara–Laveno segment was closed to passenger traffic from 12 December 2013. A replacement bus now only serves the section between Sesto Calende and Laveno. The Gotthard railway (german: Gotthardbahn; it, Ferrovia del Gottardo) is the Swiss trans-alpine railway line from northern Switzerland to the canton of Ticino. The line forms a major part of an important international railway link between northern and southern Europe, especially on the Rotterdam-Basel-Genoa corridor.
