Lugouqiao Subdistrict (), formerly Lugouqiao Township, is a subdistrict located at the northern end of Fengtai District, Beijing, China. It borders Lugu, Babaoshan, Taipingqiao and Guang'anmenwai Subdistricts to the north, You'anmen Subdistrict to the east, Xincun Subdistrict, Huaxiang and Wanpingcheng Townships to the south, Changxindian Town and Lugu Subdistrict to the west. It has a population of 112,087 within its administrative area as of the 2020 census. The subdistrict's name (), is the native Chinese name for Marco Polo Bridge, located at Yongding River on the southwest part of the subdistrict. A subdistrict ()' is one of the smaller administrative divisions of China, administrative divisions of China. Taipingqiao Subdistrict
Taipingqiao Subdistrict () is a subdistrict located at the northern end of Fengtai District, Beijing, China. It shares border with Yangfangdian Subdistrict in the north, Guang'anmenwai and You'anmen Subdistricts in the east, Lugouqiao Subdistrict in the west, and has several exclaves inside of Lugouqiao Township. In 2020, it had a population of 74,275 residents. The name Taipingqiao () refers to a village in the region that predated the subdistrict. History Since the establishment of People's Republic of China in 1949, the land of what would become Taipingqiao Subdistrict had remained part of Lugouqiao Subdistrict for decades. Yongding River
The Yongding River () is a river in northern China. It is one of the main tributaries in the Hai River system and is best known as the largest river to flow through Beijing. In recent years, the Beijing segment of the river has dried up due to environmental issues. The Beijing municipal government has invested 16 billion yuan in an effort to replace the riverbed with parkland or smaller bodies of water. Etymology The river was originally called Wuding River (), literally "unfixed river", because its flow was irregular. When the Kangxi Emperor reigned, he enacted various hydraulic engineering projects in the region to rein in the seasonal flooding. Marco Polo Bridge
The Marco Polo Bridge or Lugou Bridge () is a stone bridge located 15 km southwest of Beijing's city center in the Fengtai District. It bridges the Yongding River, a major tributary of Hai River. Situated at the eastern end of the bridge is the Wanping Fortress, a historic 17th-century fortress, with the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression inside. In recent years, the water of Yongding River has been diverted to different areas of Beijing, so there is often no water under the bridge. Names The name "Marco Polo Bridge" derives from the appearance, before its reconstruction, in Marco Polo's book of travels, where he praised it highly. 2020 Chinese Census
The Seventh National Population Census of the People's Republic of China (), also referred to as the 2020 Chinese Census, was the seventh national census conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China. Census work began on November 1, 2020 and continued through December 10, 2020, involving seven million census workers. You'anmen Subdistrict () is one of the 14 subdistricts of Fengtai District, Beijing, China. It is located on the eastern part of Fengtai, south of Baizhifang and Taoranting Subdistricts, west of Yongdingmenwai Subdistrict, north of Xiluoyuan Subdistrict, and east of Nanyuan, Lugouqiao and Taipingqiao Townships.
