Lugnet, Falun
Lugnet is a large sport complex located in Falun, Sweden. 58 of the Swedish Sports Confederation's 67 special sports can be practiced there. There are six full sized indoor pitches in the area where everything from dance to association football can be played or performed. There are also two swimming pools (one indoors and one outdoors), a tennis hall, an athletics arena, an ice arena including one indoor ice hockey rink, an outdoor ice hockey rink, a bandy field and a curling hall. Lugnet is also Sweden's national cross-country skiing and ski jumping centre (the Lugnet Hills ski jump) and often hosts one part of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Lugnet Hills
Lugnet HS134 is a large ski jumping hill located in Falun, Sweden. It has a hill size of HS134, a construction point of K-120. The hill has artificial lighting and bleachers for 15,000 viewers. Hill size has been increased from K-115, HS124 to K-120, HS134. The hill was built specifically for the World Cup Ski Championships in 1974. Last modernization took place from August 2012 to end of 2013 because of the preparations for the 2015 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Ski Jumping
Ski jumping is a winter sport in which competitors aim to achieve the farthest jump after sliding down on their skis from a specially designed curved ramp. Along with jump length, competitor's aerial style and other factors also affect the final score. Ski jumping was first contested in Norway in the late 19th century, and later spread through Europe and North America in the early 20th century. Along with cross-country skiing, it constitutes the traditional group of Nordic skiing disciplines. The ski jumping venue, commonly referred to as a ''hill'', consists of the jumping ramp (''in-run''), take-off table, and a landing hill. Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business. This side of the river was usually called "the mining side", where not many plants grew due to the toxic smoke which contaminated the soil. Bandy
Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The field is considerably larger than the ice rinks commonly used for ice hockey, rink bandy, or figure skating. Falu BS
Falu Bandysällskap, ''Falu BS'', is a bandy club from Falun in Sweden. Falu BS was founded as ''Falu Bollsällskap'' on 10 December 1935, by merging Falu BK, Holmens IF, Falu SK and IFK Falun. All these clubs were playing bandy. In 1936 the new club Falu BS started in Swedish division II. The jersey was like the one Falu BK had used, copper brown with the text "FALUN" on the chest. The home games were played at Främbyviken or Kvarnbergsplan (later to be called Kopparvallen). In 1939/1940 the team reached Bandyallsvenskan, the highest league in Sweden. Falu BS was second overall, only Sandvikens AIK were better. From this season on the "classic" colours of the team were used, blue jerseys with yellow collars. The team did not last more than one season in the Bandyallsvenska this time, but got back later. Swedish Super League ( sv, Svenska Superligan för herrar; formerly, ''Elitserien'') is the highest league in the league system of Swedish floorball and comprises the top 14 Swedish floorball teams. The first season began in 1995–96. The season ends with a play-off and a final. The champion of the league is eligible to compete at the Champions Cup. Floorball
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with sticks and a plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. The basic rules were established in 1979 when the first floorball club in the world, Sala IBK, from Sala, was founded in Sweden. Official rules for matches were first written down in 1981. IBF Falun is a floorball club based in Falun, Sweden. Both the men's and women's teams play in the Swedish Super League (men's floorball), Svenska Superligan (SSL). The men's team won their first SSL gold in 2013 and proceeded to win in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2020, 2021 and 2022 as well. During these successful years, IBF Falun men's team also won three straight floorball#Champions Cup, Champions Cup golds. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 took place between 18 February and 1 March 2015 in Falun, Sweden. This was the fourth time the event is held there, having previously been held there in 1954, 1974 and 1993. In 1980, one World Ski Championship race was held there as well, to make up for its exclusion from the Olympic Games the same year. Host selection At the International Ski Federation (FIS) Council meeting in November 2007, a Candidates project concept was highlighted for use. FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships is a biennial nordic skiing event organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The World Championships was started in 1925 for men and opened for women's participation in 1954. World Championship events include nordic skiing's three disciplines: cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and nordic combined (the latter being a combination sport consisting of both cross-country and ski jumping). From 1924 to 1939, the World Championships were held every year, including the Winter Olympics. After World War II, the World Championships were held every four years from 1950 to 1982.
