It is a cover of the Italian song "Luglio", originally performed by Riccardo Del Turco. The lyrics were adapted into French by Pierre Delanoë. Released as a single in 1968, the song "Le Petit Pain au chocolat" reached no. 2 in Wallonia (French Belgium). Riccardo Del Turco
Riccardo Del Turco (born September 7, 1939) is an Italian singer and songwriter, born in Fiesole. His song '' Luglio'' topped the Italian Hit Parade Singles Chart for two weeks in July 1968, selling over 500,000 copies. ''Luglio''s tune was marketed across Europe and was released in the UK as '' I'm Gonna Try'' by The Tremeloes, but the song had a lukewarm response. The tune was then offered to the Herman's Hermits, who used it for their song, " Something's Happening". The song reached the sixth spot on the UK chart. Other international versions of Luglio include Joe Dassin's ''Le petit pain au chocolat'', in French, and Huhta Bengt's (aka Kristian) ''Ai ai ai'', in Finnish. The Tremeloes
The Tremeloes are an English beat group founded in 1958 in Dagenham, England. They initially found success in the British Invasion era with lead singer Brian Poole, scoring a UK chart-topper in 1963 with "Do You Love Me". After Poole's departure in 1966, the band achieved further success as a four-piece with 13 top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart between 1967 and 1971 including " Here Comes My Baby", "Even the Bad Times Are Good", " (Call Me) Number One", " Me and My Life" and their most successful single, " Silence Is Golden" (1967). Joseph Ira Dassin (; 5 November 1938 – 20 August 1980) was an American–French singer-songwriter and actor. He was the son of film director Jules Dassin. Early life Dassin was born in New York City to American film director Jules Dassin (1911–2008) and Béatrice Launer (1913–1994), a New York-born violinist, who after graduating from a Hebrew High School in the Bronx studied with the British violinist Harold Berkely at the Juilliard School of Music. His father was of Ukrainian-Jewish and Polish-Jewish extraction, his maternal grandfather was an Austrian-Jewish immigrant, who arrived in New York with his family at age 11. Dassin lived in New York City and Los Angeles until his father fell victim to the Hollywood blacklist in 1950, at which time his family moved to Europe.
