Richard Lugar
Richard Green Lugar (April 4, 1932 – April 28, 2019) was an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Indiana from 1977 to 2013. He was a member of the Republican Party. Born in Indianapolis, Lugar graduated from Denison University and the University of Oxford. He served on the Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners from 1964 to 1967 before he was elected to two terms as mayor of Indianapolis, serving from 1968 to 1976. During his tenure as mayor, Lugar served as the president of the National League of Cities in 1971 and gave the keynote address at the 1972 Republican National Convention. In 1974, Lugar ran his first campaign for the U.S. Senate. In the year's senate elections he lost to incumbent Democratic senator Birch Bayh. He ran again in 1976, defeating Democratic incumbent Vance Hartke. Lugar was reelected in 1982, 1988, 1994, 2000, and 2006. Robert Lugar
Robert Lugar (1773 – 23 June 1855), was a British architect and engineer in the Industrial Revolution. Although born in Colchester, England, Lugar carried out much of his most important work in Scotland and Wales, where he was employed by several leading industrialists to design grand houses such as Balloch Castle (1808), Cyfarthfa Castle (1824). The Rectory in Yaxham, Norfolk, which is now known as Yaxham House, was designed for Rev John Johnson (1817), with its mirror image later used for Ffrwdgrech House in Brecon (1828). He designed Denham Mount in south Buckinghamshire for Nathaniel Snell, a London merchant and partner in George Baillie and Company and Wyelands in Monmouthshire, Wales, now owned by Sanjeev Gupta. Lugar also designed Bardon Hall (1837) in Leicestershire. Lugar published a pattern book in 1815 of cottages, rural dwellings and villas. Lugar, East Ayrshire
Lugar is a small village in East Ayrshire, southwest Scotland. Lugar is in Auchinleck Parish, Kyle District, Ayrshire. It is ENE of Cumnock, and about from Cronberry and from Gaswater. Lugar was a station on the Mauchline and Muirkirk branch of the Glasgow and South Western Railway. Lugar is about SE of Kilmarnock. Lugar was once dominated by a large ironworks with several blast furnaces. Like the mining industry in nearby areas, though, the iron industry has been decimated by economic decline. The Lugar ironworks closed long ago. Lugar was built to accommodate the workers at the ironworks around 1845. They were housed in "''miners raws" (sic). On the 1860 Ordnance Survey Map the rows included ''Peesweip Row, Craigstonholm Row, Store Row, Back Row'' and ''Hollowholm Row''.(This map also shows a Curling Pond). Richard Lugar Center for Public Health Research (LRC, ka, რიჩარდ ლუგარის სახელობის საზოგადოებრივი ჯანდაცვის კვლევითი ცენტრი) is a research center (laboratory) based on the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, which was commissioned in 2011 and fully opened in August 2013. Lugar Water
The Lugar Water, or River Lugar, is created by the confluence of the Bellow Water and the Glenmuir Water, just north of Lugar, both of which flow from the hills of the Southern Uplands in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Course Source to Cumnock The river flows through the small mining village of Lugar, where at Bellow Mill, William Murdoch, the inventor of gas lighting was born in 1754. A cave where he carried out a lot of his experiments can still be seen on the riverbank. The river then flows on through the town of Cumnock, under the Woodroad Viaduct, where its water was used in earlier times to power grain mills and where it is joined by Glaisnock Water.
