Lufttransport Staffel 1
The Lufttransport Staffel 1 (LT St 1, French Escadrille Transport Aérien «La UNE» ) a transport squadron of the Swiss Air Force. The homebase of the Lufttransport Staffel 1 is the Payerne Air Base. The squadron «La UNE» is part of the Lufttransportgeschwader 1 together with the Lufttransport Staffel 5 (French '' Escadrille Transport Aérien 5 ''). The coat of arms of the Lufttransport Staffel 1 is a black bat before an orange number 1 on a green background . History The Lufttransport Staffel 1 was founded in 1965 and is a helicopter squadron of the French speaking part of Switzerland. Until 1973, the Lufttransport Staffel 1 also used the Piper Super Cub. Payerne Airport is a military airfield of the Swiss Air Force north of Payerne in Switzerland, located approximately halfway between Lausanne and Bern. History In 2004 the International Air Show Air04 was held at Payerne. On 8 July 2010, Payerne Air Base was the location from which the long-range experimental solar-powered aircraft Solar Impulse 1 achieved the world's first manned 26-hour solar-powered flight. Payerne also became the home base for the successor Solar Impulse 2 (HB-SIB) aircraft, with the aircraft's first flight made from Payerne on 2 June 2014. Berufsfliegerkorps
The ''Berufsfliegerkorps'' (BFK) ( en, professional flying corps, french: corps of the aviateurs professionnels, it, corpo degli aviatori di professione) are the professional pilots of the Swiss Air Force. History In the early 20th century, Swiss military pilots were usually militia soldiers. During the Second World War there was a need for a permanent, professional association to maintain Swiss neutrality. On 4 April 1941, the Federal Council decided to create the '' Überwachungsgeschwader'' ("Surveillance Squadron"). The ''Überwachungsgeschwader'' was disbanded at the end of 2005 and its personnel transferred to the ''Berufsfliegerkorps''. Kosovo Force
The Kosovo Force (KFOR) is a North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO-led international NATO peacekeeping, peacekeeping force in Kosovo. Its operations are gradually reducing until Kosovo Security Force, Kosovo's Security Force, established in 2009, becomes self sufficient. Piper PA-18 Super Cub
The Piper PA-18 Super Cub is a two-seat, single-engine monoplane. Introduced in 1949 by Piper Aircraft, it was developed from the PA-11 Cub Special, and traces its lineage back through the J-3 Cub to the Taylor E-2 Cub of the 1930s. In close to 40 years of production, over 10,000 were built. Super Cubs are commonly found in roles such as bush flying, banner towing and glider towing.
