Ludwig Michalek
Ludwig Michalek (13 April 1859, Temeswar - 24 September 1942, Vienna) was an Austrian portrait painter, graphic artist and copper engraver. Life and work His father was a railroad engineer. In 1873, after graduating from the Realschule in Brünn, he became a student at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, where his primary instructors were August Eisenmenger, Christian Griepenkerl and Carl Wurzinger. This was followed, in 1876, by studies with the graphic artist, Louis Jacoby. Numerous study trips took him to Italy, France, the Low Countries and Germany. He married the pianist, Lili Bailetti, in 1883. They had two daughters. From 1884 to 1887, he worked as an assistant at the Vienna Academy; in the classes for "Drawing from Life". He received an "honorable mention" at the Paris Salon in 1888, and a gold medal at the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung in 1896. Pastels
A pastel () is an art medium in a variety of forms including a stick, a square a pebble or a pan of color; though other forms are possible; they consist of powdered pigment and a binder. The pigments used in pastels are similar to those used to produce some other colored visual arts media, such as oil paints; the binder is of a neutral hue and low saturation. The color effect of pastels is closer to the natural dry pigments than that of any other process. Arpad Weixlgärtner
Arpad Weixlgärtner (6 April 1872 – 2 February 1961) was an Austrian art historian. Early life and education Weixlgärtner was born on 6 April 1872 in Vienna in an artistic family; his father a Hungarian count and his grandfather a landscape painter. He studied law, history, art history and archaeology in Vienna and earned his doctoral degree in 1899 with a dissertation titled ''Zu Dürers Akt- und Proportionsstudien'' ("On Dürer's studies of nudes and proportions"). The work was passed with the comment that it was "worth every praise and corresponds fully to the formal requirements". In 1908, Weixlgärtner married Viennese artist Josephine (Pepi) Neutra (1886–1981). Ottakring () is the 16th District in the city of Vienna, Austria (german: 16. Bezirk, Ottakring). It is located west of the central districts, north of Penzing and south of Hernals. The ''Österreichische Volks-Zeitung'' emerged from the ''Konstitutionellen Vorstadt-Zeitung'' (16 April 1865 – 31 May 1874) and was published from 19 August 1888 to 13 November 1918. It was published daily in a format of approx. 40 × 30 cm (2°). The imprint names Gustav Hinterhuber as editor and Wilhelm Feldbaum as printer. From 1 April 1905, a subsidiary edition appeared – the "Kleine österreichische Volkszeitung", which was also published until 13 November 1918.
