Lucknow Lancers
The Lucknow Lancers are a senior hockey team based out of Lucknow, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. Championships In 1996-97, Lucknow captured the Senior "B" championship, and in 1988-89, they were Intermediate "D" champs. 2006-07 Lancers Season Lucknow, coming off an 18-6-1 record in 2005-06, had the best record in the regular season in 2006-07, going 20-2-2. The Lancers finished the season on a 12-0-1 streak, and they scored a season high fifteen goals in a 15-6 win over the Drayton Icemen on October 22. In the opening round of the "AA" playoffs against the Hensall Sherwoods, the teams would split the first two games of the series before Lucknow would win three in a row to eliminate the Sherwoods, including a convincing 6-1 win in the fifth game. Lucknow is a community located in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. It is incorporated in the Township of Huron-Kinloss. History Lucknow boasts a strong Scottish heritage that reaches back to the late 1800s where the Lucknow Caledonian Games boomed for about 20 years. Lucknow's welcome sign honours Donald Dinnie a folk hero of Lucknow. This champion wrestler and heavyweight athlete of the world competed in the Games in Lucknow in 1882. Although he had no ties with the community he remains part of the lore. The village was named after Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India where the Indian Rebellion of 1857 took place between Indian freedom fighters and the East India Company army. Lucknow takes the name of "Sepoy" which refers to the Indian foot soldiers who fought on the British side in the Relief of Lucknow. Palmerston 81's
The Mapleton-Minto 81's are a senior hockey team based out of Palmerston, Harriston, and Drayton, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. Championships Palmerston won the WOAA Grand Championship in the 1957-58 season. The current Palmerston 81's have three WOAA Sr. "A" Championships, in 1998-99, 2005–06, and 2007–08, and they have a WOAA Sr. "AA" Championship, in 2002-03. 2006-07 Season Palmerston, the defending Senior "A" Champions, had a very strong year, with a 17-7-0 record, good for fourth in the North Division. The WOAA Senior AA Hockey League is a Canadian senior ice hockey league governed by the Western Ontario Athletic Association. The league operates in Southwestern Ontario. History Format The league uses Hockey Canada playing rules but is not operated under the jurisdictions of the Ontario Hockey Association or Hockey Canada. The league is based in the Georgian Triangle and Southwestern Ontario. The league has been in existence since 1943, one year after the WOAA itself was established, and has entertained large crowds with local former Junior Hockey players and the odd former professional player. The league is rather large and features teams of both Senior "AA" and Senior "A" calibre. It is generally accepted that none of these teams could financially compete with the Senior "AAA" teams that compete for the Allan Cup. Western Ontario Athletic Association
The Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) is the governing body of minor and senior sports in a region encompassing Grey County, Bruce County, Perth County, Huron County, northern Middlesex County, and northern Wellington County. The WOAA Senior Hockey League has been around since 1948. Sports The WOAA controls these sports: Senior Hockey, Women's Hockey, Minor Hockey, and Softball. The WOAA also actively trains officials for these sports. The WOAA's jurisdiction over local Senior Hockey has lasted since the 1948-1949 season but the association was actually established in 1942 by W. T. (Doc) Cruickshank of Wingham, Ontario. Shallow Lake Crushers
The Shallow Lake Crushers are a senior hockey team based out of Shallow Lake, Ontario, Canada. Their inaugural season started in October 2007. History 2007-08 Crushers Season The Crushers would play their first ever game at home, losing to the Ripley Wolves by a score of 11-1. Shallow Lake would continue to struggle, as they would lose their first twelve games, being outscored 103-30 in the process, before defeating the Georgian Bay River Rats by a score of 6-1 in their thirteenth game and earn their first ever victory. Shallow Lake would play better hockey as the season went on, highlighted by a 6-4 win on the road over the Ripley Wolves. Thedford Dirty Dogs
The Thedford Dirty Dogs are a senior hockey team based out of Thedford, Ontario, Canada. They have played three seasons in the WOAA Senior Hockey League. 2006-07 Dirty Dogs Season On October 7, 2006, the Thedford Dirty Dogs began their first season in the WOAA with a 10-2 loss to the Hensall Sherwoods at the Thedford Bosanquet Community Centre. Two weeks later on October 21, the Dirty Dogs played in their first road game, an 8-4 loss in Hensall. On November 11, Thedford earned their first point of the season, as they lost to the Wingham Bulls 7-6 in overtime in a game in Wingham. The Dirty Dogs finished the regular season still looking for their first win, as they wound up with a 0-23-1 record, ending up in ninth place in the nine team South Division. Durham Thundercats
The Durham Thundercats, originally the Durham 72's, are a senior hockey team based out of Durham, Ontario, Canada. The Thundercats date back to the town's Centennial, 1972, and have been an extremely successful team in all loops of the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior "AA" Hockey League. The 72's During the 1972 Centennial celebration in Durham, locals decided a second Men's hockey club could succeed and thus put into place the formation of the current Durham Thundercats. Working alongside but playing out of different leagues as the towns established team, the Huskies, the town applied to and was accepted to enter the Western Ontario Athletic Association's Northern league. Saugeen Shores Winterhawks
The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks are a senior hockey team in the WOAA Senior Hockey League based in Saugeen Shores, Ontario, Canada. History With the construction of the Saugeen Shores Community Complex in 2000, there was considerable pressure to lure a senior or junior league team to the municipality, which had been without a permanent team since the Lakeshore Winterhawks folded in 1996. Following a short-lived attempt to share the Junior-B Owen Sound Greys in the first half of the decade, the Winterhawks entered the WOAA Senior Hockey League in 2007/08. The team took the name Winterhawks as a tribute to their predecessor, who played from 1989 until 1996, including their final three seasons in the WOAA senior loop. Milverton Four Wheel Drives
The Milverton Four Wheel Drives are a senior hockey team based in Milverton, Ontario, Canada. They play in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. History From 1974 until 1976, the Four Wheel Drives left the WOAA and played in the Ontario Hockey Association's Intermediate C Hockey League. They returned soon after. Championships The Four Wheel Drives were a highly successful team in the 1970s, as they won the WOAA Grand Championship three years in a row, from 1971 to 1973. In recent years, Milverton has captured the "AA" championship three times, in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Elora Rocks
The Elora Rocks are a senior hockey team based out of Elora, Ontario, Canada. They play in the WOSHL, the Western Ontario Super Hockey League presented by Sleeman Breweries. History In the early 1990s, the Elora Rocks were members of the Northern Senior A Hockey League, winning their final two league titles before jumping to the WOAA in 1993. Elora has captured the WOAA Sr. "AA" championship three times, the first time in 2004-05, followed by 2006-07, and 2009-10. After a couple of building seasons the Rocks climbed their to way to their first AA Senior final vs the Clinton Radars. It was hyped as a battle of the Titans, but the Rocks poured it on and swept the series 4-0. Hensall Sherwoods
The Exeter Mohawks were a senior hockey team based out of Exeter, Ontario, Canada. The team was previously known as the Hensall Sherwoods, but relocated to Exeter in the summer of 2007. The Mohawks played in the Western Ontario Athletic Association Senior Hockey League. 1980s In the 1980s, the Exeter Mohawks were an Ontario Hockey Association senior hockey club. As members of the Central Senior B Hockey League, the Mohawks were 1988 OHA Senior AA Champions and All-Ontario Senior AA Champions, losing the Col. J. Bourque Trophy Final to the Campbellton Tigers of New Brunswick.
