''Luck in Pawn'' is a 1919 American silent romance film starring Marguerite Clark and directed by Walter Edwards. It was produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed through Paramount Pictures. The film is based on a play by Marvin Taylor, ''Luck in Pawn'', and ran briefly on Broadway in 1919. The film is listed as being preserved at the Library of Congress and New Zealand Film Archive. Walter Edwards (director)
Walter Edwards (January 8, 1870 – April 12, 1920), was an American director, screenwriter and actor. He directed 46 films during his career. Edwards initially work at the Elitch Theatre was as a director in 1896, but he later returned for multiple seasons as an actor in the summer stock cast. "In 1896, Mrs. Elitch signed J. H. Huntley to direct a resident stock company... After six weeks of melodrama, however, and a few unsatisfactory notices, the organization of the company was changed. Huntley, who was not very popular with audiences or with newspaper reviewers, was replaced by Walter Edwards." On July 12, 1896, Edwards started as director and his first play was J. K. Tillotson's ''A Gilded Crime''. The newspaper review stated: "Walter Edwards' presence has strengthened the company materially..." John Steppling (8 August 1870 in Essen, Germany – 5 April 1932 in Hollywood, California) was a German-American silent film actor. He moved to America at a young age and entered film in 1912 aged 42. He starred in a total of 230 films between then and 1928. He is also credited with directing 7 films. He is the grandfather of playwright John Steppling. Lydia Knott (October 1, 1866 – March 30, 1955) was an American actress of the silent film era. She appeared in more than 90 films between 1914 and 1937. Biography Knott was born in Tyner, Indiana, the daughter of Lambert and Clarissa Knott. She died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles. She was the mother of director Lambert Hillyer. For years, Knott was David Higgins' leading lady. She acted in Repertory theatre, stock theater in Albany, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Toledo, among other cities. She also toured the United States in at least five productions. She also acted in vaudeville. Lillian Langdon (November 25, 1860 – February 8, 1943) was an American film actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 80 films between 1912 and 1928. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Langdon was a descendant of Montgomery Pike, discoverer of Pike's Peak, and Jasper Crane, founder of Newark. She acted on stage before she began her career in films. In private life, she was known as Lillie H. Bolles. She died at her home in Santa Monica, California, aged 82.
