Lucien Vlaemynck
Lucien Vlaemynck (19 August 1914 – 14 June 1994) was a Belgian professional road bicycle racer. Vlaemynck rode his only Tour de France in 1939, when he finished third overall. He also finished in third place in the 1946 Paris–Roubaix. Izenberge is a Belgian village in the province of West Flanders. Since a fusion in the seventies it belongs now to the larger agglomeration of Alveringem Alveringem (; vls, Oalveringem) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. Félicien Vervaecke
Félicien Vervaecke (; 11 March 1907 – 31 October 1986, in Brussels) was a Belgian professional cyclist from 1930 to 1939. In the Tour de France he showed good results, finishing three times on the podium (second once, third twice). In 1935 and 1937 he won the mountain classification, and overall he won six stages. In the 1936 Tour de France, Vervaecke was on his way to the second place, but bad luck prevented it. First his bicycle broke, and he had to convince a spectator to lend his. Then he suffered a flat tire, and Tour officials forced him to wait for the reserve car. Antonin Magne passed him. When Vervaecke got his tire, he raced back to Magne, and finished 18 seconds behind him. 1939 Tour De France
The 1939 Tour de France was the 33rd edition of the Tour de France, taking place from 10 to 30 July. The total distance was . Taking place on the eve of World War II, there was already much animosity in Europe. Italy, Germany and Spain all declined to send teams to the race, so the 1938 Italian champion Gino Bartali would not be defending his title. To fill out the ranks, Belgium sent two teams, and France had five teams. This would be the final Tour for eight years, until 1947. Between the second and the seventh stage, the last rider in the general classification was eliminated. The race was won by Belgian Sylvère Maes who also won the mountains classification.
