Lucarno
Lucarno (February 10, 2004 - March 20, 2018) is a Thoroughbred racehorse and sire best known for winning the St Leger in 2007. Background Lucarno is a big, powerful bay horse, standing 16.3 hands high, bred in Pennsylvania by his owner George W. Strawbridge, Jr. He was sired by Dynaformer whose other offspring includes Barbaro and McDynamo. The colt was sent to race in Europe where he was trained by John Gosden. He was ridden in most of his races by Jimmy Fortune. Racing career 2007: three-year-old season Unraced as a two-year-old, Lucarno made his racecourse debut in a maiden race at Newbury Racecourse in April in which he started a 50/1 outsider and finished second of the sixteen runners behind Diamond Tycoon. He then made rapid progress, winning a maiden over a mile at Kempton Park by seven lengths and the Listed Fairway Stakes over ten furlongs at Newmarket Racecourse in May. John Gosden
John Harry Martin Gosden (born 30 March 1951) is a British racehorse trainer. He has trained over 3,000 winners worldwide, including winners of the Breeders' Cup Classic, the Derby, the Arc, the King George, the Eclipse, and over 600 winners in the United States. Gosden has trained the winners of over 100 Group 1 races in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He is generally considered one of the finest and most successful racehorse trainers of his generation. His reputation for honesty and openness has led him to be called "one of the sport's great communicators". He is the only trainer in history whose horses have won the Cartier Awards for Cartier Champion Three-year-old Colt, Cartier Champion Three-year-old Filly and Cartier Horse of the Year in the same year. Jimmy Fortune (jockey)
James Joseph Fortune (born 14 June 1972) is a retired Irish thoroughbred jockey who in a 30-year career won over 1,800 races, including 16 Group 1s, and 1 British Classic, the 2007 St Leger. Career Fortune was apprenticed to Mike O'Neill and Luca Cumani. He was first licensed in 1987 and his first win came on 29 July 1988 at Thirsk riding Hitchenstown for Eric Alston. It was O'Neill who brought Fortune over to Britain, and his first major victory was on O'Neill's Joveworth at 50/1 in the 1989 Ayr Gold Cup, while still an apprentice, claiming 5lb. In 1990 he became Champion Apprentice with 47 wins. Later, Fortune became jockey for David Barron, then took a retainer with Jack Ramsden after Kieren Fallon left. This led to him becoming the retained jockey for Robert Sangster in 1998, when Peter Chapple-Hyam was his trainer. His first Group 1 win was on Commander Collins in that season's Racing Post Trophy. St Leger
The St Leger Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Doncaster over a distance of 1 mile, 6 furlongs and 115 yards (2,921 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. Established in 1776, the St Leger is the oldest of Britain's five Classics. It is the last of the five to be run each year, and its distance is longer than any of the other four. Dynaformer (April 1, 1985 – April 29, 2012) was a Thoroughbred race horse and breeding stallion most notable as the sire of 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro (horse), Barbaro. Background Dynaformer was an unusually large horse, standing high. bred by Joseph Allen. He was sired by Epsom Derby winner Roberto (horse), Roberto out of Andover Way (by His Majesty). Authorized (foaled 14 February 2004) is an Irish-bred and British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse, winner of the 2007 Epsom Derby. Background Authorized was foaled on 14 February 2004 and was sired by Montjeu, winner of the Irish Derby, Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1999 and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in 2000.
