During the 1635 to 1659 Franco-Spanish War, Tienen was part of the Spanish Netherlands and was captured by a combined Franco-Dutch army in May 1635. Its capture resulted in one of the most serious atrocities of the Dutch Revolt; the town was sacked, over 200 civilians killed and many buildings damaged, including Catholic churches and monasteries. This ended Dutch prospects of winning over the predominantly Catholic population of the Southern Netherlands. After the 1714 Treaty of Utrecht, the town ...

Wax Trax! Records Artists
Waxes are a diverse class of organic compounds that are lipophilic, malleable solids near ambient temperatures. They include higher alkanes and lipids, typically with melting points above about 40 °C (104 °F), melting to give low viscosity liquids. Waxes are insoluble in water but soluble in nonpolar organic solvents such as hexane, benzene and chloroform. Natural waxes of different types are produced by plants and animals and occur in petroleum. Chemistry Waxes are organic compounds that characteristically consist of long aliphatic alkyl chains, although aromatic compounds may also be present. Natural waxes may contain unsaturated bonds and include various functional groups such as fatty acids, primary and secondary alcohols, ketones, aldehydes and fatty acid esters. Synthetic waxes often consist of homologous series of long-chain aliphatic hydrocarbons ( alkanes or paraffins) that lack functional groups. Plant and animal waxes Waxes are synthesized ...

Wax Trax! Records
Wax Trax! Records is an American independent record label based in Chicago. It began as a record shop in Denver, Colorado, opened by life partners Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher, who sold the store in 1978 and moved to Chicago. In November of that year, they opened a store under the same name in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. During the 1980s and 1990s, the accompanying record label became a presence on the new wave and punk rock scenes in the city, and an outlet for European bands. The label was purchased in 1992 by TVT Records and was discontinued in 2001. In 2014, it was re-established by Julia Nash, daughter of co-founder Jim Nash. Richard Giraldi of the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' wrote, "As important as Chess Records was to blues and soul music, Chicago's Wax Trax imprint was just as significant to the punk rock, new wave and industrial genres." According to critic Greg Kot, the legacy of Wax Trax is trusting the artist. Origins The record store became a record label slowly at ...

Live! You Goddamned Son Of A Bitch
''Live! You Goddamned Son of a Bitch'' is a concert album and video by the Revolting Cocks, consisting of live material recorded at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago, on September 4, 1987. However, Al Jourgensen has claimed in his autobiography, that the whole concert was re-recorded in Trax studio in Chicago afterwards. According to Jourgensen both Paul Barker and Chris Connelly thought the live record sounded horrible and they refused to release the original audio recording of the show. Jourgensen thought the recording was perfect but later agreed with Barker and Connelly. It is their second LP release following ''Big Sexy Land''. Linger Ficken' Good
''Linger Ficken' Good ... and Other Barnyard Oddities'' is the third studio album by American industrial rock band Revolting Cocks. The title is a satirical spoonerism of the advertising slogan employed by KFC in the 1970s—"''Finger'' ''Lickin Good." Videos were made for two singles, the first of which was the cover of "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" which was directed by David F. Friedman and featured Chris Connelly prominently, interacting with the patrons of a sleazy strip club, including Friedman, Jewel Shepard and Linnea Quigley, and being horrified when the club switches into a nightmarish environment (exterior shots were filmed in front of the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth, Texas). The second video was for "Crackin' Up", which was played on an episode of ''Beavis & Butthead''. Track listing All tracks by Revolting Cocks unless noted. Singles ''Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?'' (1993) # "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" # "Sergio Guitar" (alternate version of "Sergio") # "Wrong Sexy Mix" (alterna ...

Beers, Steers, And Queers
''Beers, Steers + Queers'' (stylized as ''BEERS, STEERS + QVEERS: THE ALBVM'') is the second studio album by American–Belgian industrial rock band Revolting Cocks. Released in May 1990, the album was supported by three singles and was reissued several times. Its sound is industrial and built upon repetitive percussion and samples. David Jeffries of AllMusic described ''Beers, Steers + Queers'' as dominating college radio and clubs. The album's supporting tour was recalled by Chris Connelly as “ridiculous” and particularly chaotic. Content The album opens with a telephone conversation between two southerners discussing an upcoming local appearance by the Revolting Cocks. They are unfamiliar with the band and interpret the name as belonging to a male strip show. The band had to dramatically change the song "(Let's Get) Physical" to avoid a lawsuit by Olivia Newton-John's lawyers. Although they had changed the music, they had kept the original lyrics intact. When the writer ...

Big Sexy Land
''Big Sexy Land'' is the debut studio album by industrial rock band Revolting Cocks, released through Wax Trax! Records in 1986. This is the only album to feature the group's founding lineup of Luc van Acker, Richard 23 and Alain Jourgensen. Background The album's title is a reference to a strip club in West Berlin. Jourgensen said that the club's large, neon sign was "the biggest capitalistic tease" for citizens in East Germany. The album was recorded in 1985 at ICP Studios in Brussels. Van Acker attributed the album's mixing to Jourgensen's sessions with Adrian Sherwood on ''Twitch''. Van Acker said Jourgensen surreptitiously took notes on Sherwood's settings, but, without any context for the numbers, they had to later guess at what the settings were for, such as reverb and delay time. According to van Acker, Jourgensen did not appear as a musician on the album because he was still under contract by Sire. After Jourgensen released a dub remix of "You Often Forget" without th ...

Kerrang!
''Kerrang!'' is a British weekly magazine devoted to rock, punk and heavy metal music, currently published by Wasted Talent (the same company that owns electronic music publication ''Mixmag''). It was first published on 6 June 1981 as a one-off supplement in the ''Sounds'' newspaper. Named after the onomatopoeic word that derives from the sound made when playing a power chord on a distorted electric guitar, ''Kerrang!'' was initially devoted to the new wave of British heavy metal and the rise of hard rock acts. In the early 2000s, it became the best-selling British music weekly. History ''Kerrang!'' was founded in 1981. The editor of the weekly music magazine ''Sounds'', Alan Lewis, suggested that Geoff Barton edit a one-off special edition focusing on the new wave of British heavy metal phenomenon and on the rise of other hard rock acts.
