Loyalist College
Loyalist College (formally Loyalist College of Applied Arts and Technology) is an English-language college in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. History Prior to the 1960s, only trade schools co-existed with universities in the province of Ontario at the post-secondary level, most of which had been established primarily to help veterans reintegrate into society in the post-war years. Loyalist College was founded in 1967 as part of a provincial initiative to create many such institutions to provide career-oriented diploma and certificate courses, as well as continuing education programs to Ontario communities. The name of the college reflects the area's original settlement by United Empire Loyalists. Originally operated out of a local high school, Loyalist College moved to its present campus on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road in 1968. United Empire Loyalist
United Empire Loyalists (or simply Loyalists) is an honorific title which was first given by the 1st Lord Dorchester, the Governor of Quebec, and Governor General of The Canadas, to American Loyalists who resettled in British North America during or after the American Revolution. At the time, the demonym ''Canadian'' or ''Canadien'' was used to refer to the indigenous First Nations groups and the descendants of New France settlers inhabiting the Province of Quebec. They settled primarily in Nova Scotia and the Province of Quebec. The influx of loyalist settlers resulted in the creation of several new colonies. In 1784, New Brunswick was partitioned from the Colony of Nova Scotia after significant loyalist resettlement around the Bay of Fundy. The influx of loyalist refugees also resulted in the Province of Quebec's division into Lower Canada (present-day Quebec), and Upper Canada (present-day Ontario) in 1791. Jamie Schmale
Jamie P. Schmale is a Canadian politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock in the House of Commons of Canada in the 2015 federal election. He was re-elected in the 2019 election. Prior to entering politics, Schmale attended Loyalist College, graduating from the Radio Broadcasting program. Prince Edward—Hastings
Prince Edward—Hastings was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that existed in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 2015. Its population in 2006 was 113,227. It was redistributed between Bay of Quinte electoral district and Hastings—Lennox and Addington electoral district as a result of the Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012. History The electoral district was created in 1966 from parts of Hastings South, Hastings—Frontenac, Northumberland, and Prince Edward—Lennox ridings. It consisted of the County of Prince Edward, the Townships of Rawdon and Sidney (excluding the City of Belleville) in the County of Hastings, and the Townships of Brighton, Cramahe, Murray and Seymour in the County of Northumberland. Ernie Parsons
Ernie Parsons (born June 5, 1946) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, representing the riding of Prince Edward—Hastings for the Ontario Liberal Party from 1999 to 2007. In 2007 he was appointed as a Justice of the Peace. Background Parsons received a Civil Engineering degree from Carleton University in 1969, and was employed by the Ministry of Transportation from 1969 to 1974, and taught Technology courses at Loyalist College from 1974 to 1999. Erin Davis
Erin Davis is the author of the book ''Mourning Has Broken: Love, Loss and Reclaiming Joy'' (HarperCollins, 2019) and a former media figure in Toronto, Ontario. CHFI-FM (98.1 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Owned and operated by Rogers Sports & Media, it broadcasts an adult contemporary format, switching to Christmas music for part of November and December. Henry Joseph Maloney
Henry Joseph Maloney (15 April 1915 – 7 July 1987) was a Canadian priest, a school and college governor, and community leader based in Bancroft, Ontario. Maloney was born in Eaganville in 1915, as the son of physician and politician Martin James Maloney. His three brothers included James Maloney who became a politician and Arthur Maloney who became a politician and the Ontario Ombudsman. He was the founder of Our Lady of Mercy Separate School and credited for getting Bancroft connected to the Canadian telephone network. He was the first chair of the board of Loyalist College. In the 1960s, Maloney persuaded the Canadian prime minister John Diefenbaker to sell uranium mined in Canada to the United Kingdom. As a result of his lobbying and negotiations, the closure of the two mines was postponed.
