Lowerhouse Cricket Club
Lowerhouse Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at The Brooks Foundation Ground on Liverpool Road in Burnley. In recent years the club has been very successful, winning the league in 2011, 2012 and 2014, the Worsley Cup in 2004, 2012, 2018 and 2021 and the Twenty20 Cup in 2013. The club won the league for the first time in 2005, captained by Joe Beneduce, having won the cup for the first time the year before, captained by Matt Hope. It has employed professionals including Matthew Mott, Ryan Harris, Martin van Jaarsveld, Jacques Rudolph, and Peter Fulton. For the 2022 season the captain is Benjamin Heap, and the professional is Stephen Parry. Its real importance is probably due to its history of employing professional players of international standing to play in the League. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Matthew Mott
Matthew Peter Mott (born 3 October 1973) is an Australian cricket coach and a former first-class cricketer. He is the former coach of the Australian Women's Cricket Team. He currently coaches the England men's white-ball cricket team. Playing career Mott played for the Victorian Bushrangers and Queensland Bulls. He was part of the Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide in 1995. A left-handed batsman, he made his first-class debut in 1994–95, playing for Queensland. He was in and out of the side but made a crucial 86 in Queensland's 1996–97 Sheffield Shield Final. Ryan Harris (cricketer)
Ryan James Harris (born 11 October 1979) is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He was a right-arm fast bowler who was a member of the Australia national cricket team until retiring in the Ashes tour lead up of 2015 due to a knee injury. It had hampered him for a majority of his career, but despite this, he performed as one of Australia's most highly rated fast bowlers. Career Ryan Harris played with the Southern Redbacks from 2001–02 to 2007–08. He was due to represent Sussex County Cricket Club in the 2008 English summer but the deal fell through when he moved to Queensland because it breached his Sussex contract. Martin Van Jaarsveld
Martin van Jaarsveld (born 18 June 1974) is a former South African cricketer who played nine Tests and eleven One Day Internationals for South Africa between 2002 and 2004. Van Jaarsveld is a specialist middle-order batsman, though he has two wickets in One Day International cricket, including England opening batsman Marcus Trescothick in a match where he bowled five overs for 18 runs, but did not get to bat because of a 153-run partnership between Jacques Kallis and Jacques Rudolph. Jacques Rudolph
Jacobus Andries "Jacques" Rudolph (born 4 May 1981) is a former South African cricketer who played for Glamorgan and in South Africa with Titans. He attended Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool, a popular and renowned public school located in Pretoria. International cricket Rudolph was chosen for South Africa's Test team in 2003 having previously had his selection for the 2002 New Year's Test against Australia in Sydney overruled by cricket administrators due to the South African practice of obeying a 'quota' of non-white players; the board overruled the selectors and installed Justin Ontong in the team. Peter Fulton
Peter Gordon Fulton (born 1 February 1979) is a former New Zealand international cricketer who played for Canterbury at domestic level. He comes from a well recognised cricketing family with his uncle Roddy Fulton playing and captaining both Canterbury, Northern Districts, and New Zealand A from 1972 to 1985. He retired from first-class cricket in April 2017. Domestic career Fulton's career highlights include scoring 301 not out against Auckland at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch over 11/12 March 2003, which is the highest maiden first-class century by any New Zealand batsman. Stephen Parry (cricketer)
Stephen David Parry (born 12 January 1986) is an English cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman and a slow left-arm bowler who played for Lancashire County Cricket Club. Parry made his senior debut for Lancashire in 2007 and in 2009 was named Lancashire's Young Player of the Year. From 2008 to 2012 Lancashire had two other left-arm orthodox spinners in their squad, with Parry competing with them for places in the team. Burnley Cricket Club
Burnley Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League based at Turf Moor in Burnley, Lancashire. The club was a founder member of the Lancashire League in 1892 and has won the League Championship 17 times, the Worsley Cup 10 times and the 20/20 Cup three times. The club has seen huge success in recent years including becoming the first Club to win the Worsley Cup four years in a row in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, as well as enjoying a record breaking season in 2015 in which they won all four senior trophies; the league, the Worsley Cup, the 20/20 Competition, and the Ron Singleton Colne Trophy.
