Lowcountry Highrollers
Lowcountry Highrollers is a women's flat-track roller derby league in Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 2008, the league comprises over 30 active skaters, referees, and non-skating officials as of 2019. The Lowcountry Highrollers roller derby league is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and member league of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization In January 2008, the founding members of the Lowcountry Highrollers made their first contact with a Craigslist ad. On March 22, 2009, the Lowcountry Highrollers had their first game. It was held at the Omar Shrine Temple and was sold out. In January 2010, LCHR formed a second travel team, the Bruisin’ Betties. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. The "Dust Devil" tournament was contested in front of several thousand fans in Tucson, Arizona. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 3 (WFTDA Division 3) was the third level of play in women's flat track roller derby, from 2013 through 2014. Organisation Historically, the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) operated four regions, based on geographic location: East Region (WFTDA), East, North Central Region (WFTDA), North Central, South Central Region (WFTDA), South Central and West Region (WFTDA), West. At the start of 2013, these were replaced by three divisions, each operating worldwide. East Region (WFTDA)
The WFTDA's East Region was formed in 2006. In 2009, teams from the western part of the region were moved into the North Central and South Central Regions. In 2008, WFTDA changed from having just two regional tournaments (East and West), to five, made up of teams from four regions: East, North Central, South Central and West. Members of the WFTDA's Europe Region competed in the East Region, as did members in the eastern part of the Canada Region. WFTDA has now moved away from the Big 5 WFTDA Championships qualification tournament structure, last competed in 2012. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. Junior Roller Derby
Junior roller derby is the sport of roller derby, modified for children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. The sport is played in both modified-contact, known as "positional blocking," and full-contact approaches, to facilitate safety across multiple age and skill groups. Competitive junior roller derby worldwide is facilitated by the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA).
