Lovísa Henningsdóttir
Lovísa Björt Henningsdóttir (born 11 October 1995) is an Icelandic basketball player for Haukar of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna. She played college basketball for Marist of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, she debuted with the Icelandic national team. Playing career Early career Lovísa came up through the junior programs of Haukar and played her first senior game with the team in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna in 2009. She spent the 2011-2012 season in the Efterskolen Ved Nyborg basketball academy in Denmark. After her return, Lovísa appeared in 15 games during the 2012-2013 season, averaging 3.0 points. In 2013-2014, she appeared in a career high 33 games, averaging 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. On 22 February 2014, she won the Icelandic Cup after Haukar defeated Snæfell in the Cup finals. Úrvalsdeild kvenna; English: Women's Premier League, known as Subway deild kvenna for sponsorship reasons, is the highest basketball competition among women's clubs in Iceland. It is administrated by the Icelandic Basketball Federation. It was founded in 1952 and, until 2007, it was known as 1. deild kvenna (English: Women's First division). Fjölnir Women's Basketball
The Fjölnir women's basketball team, commonly known as Fjölnir, represents Ungmennafélagið Fjölnir multi-sport club and is based in Grafarvogur, Reykjavík. As of the 2018–2019 season it plays in the Icelandic 1. deild kvenna (basketball), 1. deild kvenna. History Fjölnir played in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild kvenna from 2007 to 2009 and 2010 to 2013. It won its first Úrvalsdeild victory on 3 November 2007. Haukar Women's Basketball Players
Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar ( en, Hawks F.C.) is an Icelandic multi-sport club from Hafnarfjörður with divisions in Football, Handball, Basketball, Karate, Skiing & Chess. Club history The club was founded on 12 April 1931, when 13 young boys got together in a local KFUM (Icelandic YMCA) house to form a new athletic club in the town. At the club's 3rd meeting, they decided that it would be named Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar. Hilmar Smári Henningsson
Hilmar Smári Henningsson (born 3 September 2000) is an Icelandic basketball player for the Eisbären Bremerhaven of the German ProA and the Icelandic national basketball team. In 2019, he was named the Úrvalsdeild Young Player of the Year and in 2022, he won the Icelandic Cup with Stjarnan. Club career Hilmar Smári started his senior team career with Haukar, appearing in 7 games during the 2016–17 Úrvalsdeild karla season. After starting the following season with Haukar, he moved to Þór Akureyri in December 2017. In 12 games with Þór, he averaged 12.2 points and 4.0 rebounds. He returned to Haukar for the 2018–19 season and went on to average 14.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. After the season he was named the Úrvalsdeild Young Player of the Year. Iceland Men's National Basketball Team
The Iceland men's national basketball team ( is, Íslenska karlalandsliðið í körfubolta) represents Iceland in international basketball tournaments. The team is controlled by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Iceland has qualified for the EuroBasket twice, with the national team making their first ever appearance in 2015. They also participate at smaller European tournaments, such as the Games of the Small States of Europe. Although Iceland has yet to make their debut entrance on to the global stage at the FIBA World Cup. The Keflavík women's basketball team, commonly known as Keflavík, is the women's basketball department of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. It is Iceland's most successful women's basketball team with 16 national championship. They currently play in Úrvalsdeild kvenna where they won the national championship in 2017. 2022–23 Úrvalsdeild Kvenna (basketball)
The 2022–23 Úrvalsdeild kvenna was the 66th season of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top tier women's basketball league on Iceland. The season started on 20 September 2022 and concluded on 28 April 2023 with Valur winning the national championship after beating Keflavík in the Úrvalsdeild finals, 3–1. Kiana Johnson of Valur was named the Finals MVP. Competition format The participating teams first play a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 28 games. The top four teams qualify for the championship playoffs whilst the bottom team will be relegated to 1. deild kvenna.
