''Love is in the Bin'' is a 2018 art intervention by Banksy at Sotheby's London, with an unexpected self-destruction of his 2006 painting of ''Girl with Balloon'' immediately after it was sold at auction for a record £1,042,000. According to Sotheby's, it is "the first artwork in history to have been created live during an auction." The painting has been on permanent loan to the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart since March 2019. In October 2021, it sold at auction for £18,582,000, a record for the artist. Original work The painting is an adaptation of Banksy's 2002 mural ''Girl with Balloon'', rare as a unique work rather than a print. It was given by Banksy to a friend shortly after the " Barely Legal" exhibition in 2006. ''Civilian Drone Strike'' is a 2017 artwork by Banksy. The work depicts three General Atomics MQ-1 Predator drones flying above a child's drawing of a bombed house with a child and pet looking on at the destruction. The piece was donated to the Art the Arms Fair gallery and was exhibited to coincide with the 2017 DSEI arms fair. The work sold for £205,000. Auto-Destructive Art (ADA) is a form of art coined by Gustav Metzger, an artist born in Bavaria who moved to Britain in 1939. Taking place after World War II, Metzger wanted to showcase the destruction created from the war through his artwork. This movement took place in England and was launched by Metzger in 1959. This term was invented in the early 1960s and put into circulation by his article "Machine, Auto-Creative and Auto-Destructive Art" in the summer 1962 issue of the journal ''Ark''. Bored Panda is a Lithuanian website that publishes articles about "lightweight and inoffensive topics". It was founded in 2009 by Tomas Banišauskas, who was then a business administration student at Vilnius University. As of November 2017, the site had 41 employees. It makes most of its revenue from the advertisements that run on the site. According to NewsWhip, Bored Panda's Facebook page received over 30 million likes, shares, comments, and reactions in October 2017, more than any other English-language news website that month. Bored Panda also reported that it was viewed by 116 million unique visitors that month. A paper shredder is a mechanical device used to cut sheets of paper into either strips or fine particles. Government organizations, businesses, and private individuals use shredders to destroy private, confidential, or otherwise sensitive documents. Invention The first paper shredder is credited to prolific inventor Abbot Augustus Low, whose patent was filed on February 2, 1909. His invention was however never manufactured because the inventor died prematurely soon after filing the patent. Adolf Ehinger's paper shredder, based on a hand-crank pasta maker, was the first to be manufactured in 1935 in Germany. Supposedly he created a shredding machine to shred his anti-Nazi leaflets to avoid the inquiries of the authorities. Ehinger later marketed and began selling his patented shredders to government agencies and financial institutions converting from hand-crank to electric motor. Barely Legal (Banksy)
Barely Legal was a show by graffiti artist Banksy, held in an industrial warehouse in Los Angeles, California, in 2006. The free show was held over the weekend of 16 September 2006. Part of the exhibition was a 37-year-old Indian elephant that was painted to match the wallpaper of the room in which it was placed. The show was meant to address important issues such as poverty, which is ignored by most people; the animal was a literal representation of the "elephant in the room". While in Los Angeles, the artist also targeted Disneyland in Anaheim, where he disposed of a figure dressed up as a prisoner from the Guantanamo Bay detention camp behind on one of the rides, intending to draw attention to the situation in the detention camp, where several months earlier three inmates had committed suicide.
