Love In Exile (film)
''Love in Exile'' is a 1936 British romantic adventure film directed by Alfred L. Werker and starring Helen Vinson, Clive Brook and Mary Carlisle. Plot The film opens with the abdication of King Regis, orchestrated by powerful businessmen who exploit his romance with a commoner named Xandra, turning it into a global scandal. Blaming herself for the king's forced departure, Xandra retreats to Holland, convinced that removing herself from his life will lead to his restoration to the throne. Meanwhile, the king seeks solace in Cannes, embracing a carefree life on the Riviera as he mourns the loss of his kingdom, hoping Xandra will join him. Isleworth Studios is the common name of two former film studios in Great Britain. __TOC__ Worton Hall Studios 1913–1952 Worton Hall Studios were based on Worton Hall, in Isleworth. This house was built in 1783 and rebuilt and extended in the early 19th century. In 1913, it was acquired, together with a nine-acre estate, by film producer George Berthold Samuelson. The ground-floor rooms became dressing rooms, canteen, wardrobe and other offices; the upper rooms became bedrooms for anyone staying overnight. Filming of Conan Doyle's ''A Study in Scarlet'' began in summer 1914, and the studios were officially opened on 1 July. Samuelson gained publicity by producing a fictitious newsreel during the early years of the First World War and over the next few years many silent films were shot here, many based on novels such as '' Little Women''. Edmund Breon (born Iver Edmund de Breon MacLaverty; 12 December 1882 – 24 June 1953) was a Scottish film and stage actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1907 and 1952. Life and career Born in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Breon began in John Hare's touring company and later played on the West End stage and in Glasgow, gaining prominence. According to his grandson, film editor, Breon "started out at the turn of the century doing silent pictures in France. Vampire movies", so it is reasonably certain that MacLaverty is indeed the actor who appeared under the name Edmond Bréon in many Gaumont films 1907-1922 including, most famously, playing the part of Inspector Juve for ''Louis Feuillade'' in the ground-breaking ''Fantômas'' series. He did also appear in a small part in the 1915-1916 Feuillade series ''Les vampires'' although this is not, as his grandson supposes, a horror film.
