Love Never Dies (1921 Film)
''Love Never Dies'' is a 1921 American silent drama film directed by King Vidor. Prints of the film survive in several film archives. Plot As described in a film magazine, John Trott (Hughes) overcomes the bad influence of a wretched home, becomes successful as a contracting engineer, and marries the beautiful Tilly Whaley (Bellamy). They settle down to a happy existence in their own cottage. Then a specter of his past appears, a drunken mother, and during his absence his wife is rushed home by her sanctimonious father Ezekiel Whaley (Brownlee) and is granted a divorce. John, accompanied by his foster sister, goes to a distant city. En route, the train is wrecked and he reports himself and the child killed. His wife marries a former sweetheart. Years later, John returns to the town and old love is renewed. The jealous husband attempts to kill John but is whipped in the encounter. King Vidor
King Wallis Vidor (; February 8, 1894 – November 1, 1982) was an American film director, film producer, and screenwriter whose 67-year film-making career successfully spanned the silent and sound eras. His works are distinguished by a vivid, humane, and sympathetic depiction of contemporary social issues. Considered an auteur director, Vidor approached multiple genres and allowed the subject matter to determine the style, often pressing the limits of film-making conventions. His most acclaimed and successful film in the silent era is ''The Big Parade'' (1925). Vidor's sound films of the 1940s and early 1950s arguably represent his richest output. Raymond Durgnat (1 September 1932 – 19 May 2002) was a British film critic, who was born in London to Swiss parents. During his life he wrote for virtually every major English language film publication. In 1965 he published the first major critical essay on Michael Powell, who had hitherto been "fashionably dismissed by critics as a 'technician’s director'", as Durgnat put it. His many books include ''Films and Feelings'' (1967), ''A Mirror for England: British Movies from Austerity to Affluence'' (1970), and ''The Strange Case of Alfred Hitchcock'' (1974). The Sky Pilot
''The Sky Pilot'' is a 1921 American silent drama film based on the novel of the same name by Ralph Connor. It is directed by King Vidor and features Colleen Moore. In February 2020, the film was shown in a newly restored version at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, as part of a retrospective dedicated to King Vidor's career. Plot The Sky Pilot (Bowers) arrives in a small rough-and-tumble cattle town in Canada, intent on bringing religion to its tough residents. Maxine Elliott Hicks (October 5, 1904 – January 10, 2000) was an American actress. Life and career Maxine Elliott Hicks was born in Denver, Colorado to George W. and Margaret Hicks. She began acting on the stage from the age of 5. As Maxine Hicks, she was a starlet of the silent film era, with over 200 credited and uncredited roles between 1914 and 1937. Her most famous roles were as Felice, the daughter of Ethel Barrymore's character in the 1917 version of '' The Eternal Mother'', and the nemesis Susie May Squoggs in ''The Poor Little Rich Girl''. Hicks successfully made the transition from silents into talking pictures but left acting in 1937 when she and her mother got into a dispute with Jack Warner, the head of Warner Bros. studio.
