Love Battery
Love Battery was an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. History Love Battery was formed in 1989 by former rock band Room Nine leader Ron Nine (b. Ron Rudzitis), guitarist Kevin Whitworth (ex-Crisis Party), bassist Tommy "Bonehead" Simpson (also ex-Crisis Party) and rock band Mudhoney drummer Dan Peters. Their name came from a song of the same name by British punk band the Buzzcocks. Before releasing their first single Peters left the group and was replaced by grunge band ex-Skin Yard drummer Jason Finn. With this lineup the band released their debut single ''Between The Eyes'' for seminal Seattle record label Sub Pop. By 1990 Simpson had been replaced by ex-U-Men bassist Jim Tillman. With this lineup the band released their debut EP ''Between the Eyes'' in 1990, again on Sub Pop. This record was later expanded and released as their first full-length album in 1991. Room Nine
Room Nine was a Seattle based rock band active from the early-to-late 1980s. Contrary to many of the bands in Seattle at the time, Room Nine had a much airier and psychedelic approach to their music. Although they never found the success of their peers, Room Nine was one of the early pre-grunge era Seattle bands that helped lay the groundwork for much of the later scene. History Room Nine was formed in the early 1980s by Sammamish high school friends Ron Rudzitis (a.k.a. Ron Nine), Scott Boggan and Scott Vanderpool with light design guru Michael Laton added as the band's de facto light designer. Contrary to many of the bands at the time, Room Nine was influenced much more by psychedelic rock than punk rock. Vanderpool suggested the band's name from the door of their portion of the beehive that was Seattle Rehearsal Studios near Gas Works Park. During Room Nine's early days, Rudzitis and Boggan's home was called the Room Nine House, a place where local musicians and friends wou ... Hype!
''Hype!'' (1996) is a documentary directed by Doug Pray about the popularity of grunge rock in the early to mid-1990s United States. It incorporates interviews and rare concert footage to trace the development of the grunge scene from its early beginning in neighborhood basements to its emergence as an explosive pop culture phenomenon. ''Hype!'' attempts to dispel some of the myths of the genre promulgated by media hype by depicting the grunge subculture from the point of view of people who were active in the scene. The film generally portrays this mythos in a satirical way while acknowledging that it was media hype that helped propel some of these obscure bands to fame. Release The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 1996. It opened to general audiences on November 8 of the same year. Reception The film holds a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 27 reviews with an average rating of 7.5/10. Appearances ''Hype!'' includes interviews and performances from ... Fastbacks
Fastbacks were a Seattle, Washington, punk rock band. Formed in 1979 by songwriter/guitarist Kurt Bloch (born August 28, 1960), and friends Lulu Gargiulo (guitar and vocals, born October 12, 1960) and Kim Warnick (bass and vocals, born April 7, 1959), they disbanded in 2001. Their sound mixed a generally punk rock approach to vocals and sound textures with poppy tunes and strong musicianship. Although these three band members remained fairly constant, they went through numerous drummers, including Duff McKagan, later of Guns N' Roses. MTV's web page on the Fastbacks says that estimates at the number of Fastbacks drummers "range from 12 to 20." For most of the band's last decade, Mike Musburger filled this role, but other Fastbacks drummers before him (or when he took occasional breaks) included Bloch himself, Richard Stuverud (perhaps best known from War Babies, Fifth Angel and his collaborations with Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament, including Three Fish, Tres Mts. and RNDM), Nate John ... PolyGram Records
PolyGram N.V. was a multinational entertainment company and major music record label formerly based in the Netherlands. It was founded in 1962 as the Grammophon-Philips Group by Dutch corporation Philips and German corporation Siemens, to be a holding for their record companies, and was renamed "PolyGram" in 1972. The name was chosen to reflect the Siemens interest Polydor Records and the Philips interest Phonogram Records. The company traced its origins through Deutsche Grammophon back to the inventor of the flat disc gramophone, Emil Berliner. Later on, PolyGram expanded into the largest global entertainment company, creating film and television divisions. In May 1998, it was sold to the alcoholic distiller Seagram which owned film, television and music company Universal Studios. Dayglo (album)
''Dayglo'' is the debut studio album by the American band Love Battery. It was released in 1992 by Sub Pop. The band supported the album with a North American tour that included shows with L7. Critical reception The ''Chicago Tribune'' noted that, "unlike some of its upper-left-coast peers, Love Battery takes a more textured, psychedelic approach to modern rock." ''USA Today'' determined that the band "adds discernible melody, trance-inducing rhythms, guitar tremolo and trippy effects, plus lyrics shaded by a very distant influence, Georgia-based R.E.M." ''The Seattle Times'' deemed the music "a dense, psychedelic-tinged sound that has more in common with the English 'dream pop' movement of My Bloody Valentine and Ride than the Seattle grunge sound of Mudhoney and Tad." ''The Columbus Dispatch'' called the album "the right mix of '60s garage psychedelia and Neil Young-style music-as-primal-scream-therapy."
