''Love & Larceny'' is a Canadian television film, directed by Robert Iscove and broadcast by CBC Television in 1985.David Barber, "Illusions of grandeur". Based on a true story, the film stars Jennifer Dale as Betsy Bigley, a Canadian con woman who successfully defrauded American banks of millions of dollars by posing as the illegitimate daughter of Andrew Carnegie. Susan Wright (actress)
Susan Wright was an award-winning Canadian actress. Most prominently associated with stage roles, she also had a number of supporting roles in film and television. She grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and attended the University of Saskatchewan, where she performed at the Greystone Theatre. She left the university, however, without graduating. She co-founded the Persephone Theatre in Saskatoon, with her older sister Janet Wright, and brother-in-law Brian Richmond. The 1st Gemini Awards were held in Toronto on 4 December 1986 to honour achievements in Canadian television. Gémeaux Award, the French version of the Gemini Awards were held for the first time this year as well. The 1985 television miniseries '' Anne of Green Gables'' was the most prominent winner. English-language television coverage of the ceremonies was originally scheduled for broadcast on CBC Television, but labour disruptions at that network forced the telecast to move to a syndicated arrangement of private television stations including Toronto's Citytv. The Canadian Screen Award for Best TV Movie is a Canadian television award, presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to honour the year's best Canadian television film. Originally presented as part of the Gemini Awards, since 2013 it has been presented as part of the Canadian Screen Awards. From the inception of the Gemini Awards in 1986 until 1994, separate awards were presented for television films and miniseries; since 1995, they have usually been merged into a single Limited Series or Dramatic Program category covering both types of programs, but were sometimes split out into separate categories again in the latter half of the 2000s. As of the 8th Canadian Screen Awards in 2020, dramatic limited series are now eligible for the Canadian Screen Award for Best Dramatic Series instead of either having their own category or being merged with television films.
