Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks Softball
The Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks softball team represents the University of Louisiana at Monroe in NCAA Division I college softball. The team participates in the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks are currently led by head coach Molly Fichtner, who was hired in September 2018. The team plays its home games at the Geo-Surfaces Field at the ULM Softball Complex located on the university's campus. Molly Fichtner
Molly Fichtner (born 1992) is an American softball coach and former player. She is currently the head coach at Louisiana–Monroe. Career She attended Clear Brook High School in Houston, Texas. She later attended the University of Texas at San Antonio for two years, before transferring to the University of Alabama, where she played catcher for the Alabama Crimson Tide softball team. Fichtner was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 12, and played four years of NCAA Division I college softball with the condition. During her senior season in 2014, Fichtner led the Crimson Tide to the 2014 Women's College World Series finals, where they fell to Florida, 2–0. Coaching career After graduating from Alabama, Fichtner later went on to serve as an assistant softball coach at the University of Alabama, Dartmouth College, and East Carolina University. Geo-Surfaces Field At The ULM Softball Complex
The Geo-Surfaces Field at the ULM Softball Complex is the home stadium for the Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks softball team. Located on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the area the complex is built on was the former home of the Louisiana–Monroe Warhawks baseball team until the early 1980s. The complex utilizes bleacher seating, and has a capacity for over 500 people, as well as room for additional seating space along both foul lines. Southland Conference
The Southland Conference, abbreviated as SLC, is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the South Central United States (specifically Texas and Louisiana). It participates in the NCAA's Division I for all sports; for football, it participates in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM) is a public university in Monroe, Louisiana. It is part of the University of Louisiana System. History ULM opened in 1931 as Ouachita Parish Junior College. The 2017 National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) began on May 16, 2017 and concluded on May 24. The Liberty University Lady Flames defeated the Lamar University Lady Cardinals in a controversial rain-shortened two-game final on Liberty's home.field in Lynchburg, Virginia.
