Louisiana Highway 55 (LA 55) is a state highway located in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. It runs in a north–south direction from a dead end south of Montegut to a junction with LA 24 in Klondyke. The route travels alongside Bayou Terrebonne, connecting Montegut with the community of Bourg, which is located just beyond Klondyke. LA 24 continues the route into Houma, the parish seat and nearest city. It also connects LA 55 to LA 1 at Larose, located on Bayou Lafourche. LA 55 is known locally as Montegut Road. 1955 Louisiana Highway Renumbering
In 1955, Louisiana passed a law that undertook a comprehensive revision to the state highway classification and numbering system. The new system designated roads by importance to travel patterns and rectified the previous numbering system under new unified designations. History Highway numbers in Louisiana first appeared in 1921, per Act 95 of the 1921 Special Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Routes 1 through 98 were defined that year. These first 98 routes remained consistent throughout the pre-1955 era. Lafourche Parish (french: Paroisse de la Fourche) is a parish located in the south of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The parish seat is Thibodaux. The parish was formed in 1807. It was originally the northern part of Lafourche Interior Parish, which consisted of the present parishes of Lafourche and Terrebonne. Lafourche Parish was named after the Bayou Lafourche. City buildings have been featured in television and movies, such as in ''Fletch Lives'', due to its architecture and rich history. At the 2020 census, its population was 97,557. Thibodaux ( ) is a city in, and the parish seat of, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, United States, along the banks of Bayou Lafourche in the northwestern part of the parish. Louisiana Highway 20 (LA 20) is a state highway that serves Terrebonne Parish, Lafourche Parish, and St. James Parish. It spans a total of as a two lane, undivided road. Route description From the south, LA 20 begins at LA 182 in the northwest Terrebonne Parish town of Gibson. Schriever is a census-designated place (CDP) in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 6,7111 in 2020. It is part of the Houma– Bayou Cane–Thibodaux metropolitan statistical area. The place name was for railroad official John George Schriever (1844–1898), in connection with the 1870s opening of the rail line to Houma.
