Louisiana Highway 43
Louisiana Highway 43 (LA 43) is a state highway located in southeastern Louisiana. It runs in a north–south direction from LA 42 west of Springfield to the Mississippi state line north of Easleyville, where it continues as Mississippi Highway 568 (MS 568). A primarily rural route, LA 43 connects four small municipalities in Livingston and St. Helena parishes, including Springfield, Albany, Montpelier, and Greensburg. The latter is also the seat of St. Helena Parish. LA 43 entirely parallels the Interstate 55 (I-55) corridor, located between east in neighboring Tangipahoa Parish. Over the course of its route, LA 43 intersects such east–west routes as I-12, U.S. Highway 190 (US 190), LA 40, LA 16, LA 10, and LA 38, all of which connect to I-55. Louisiana Department Of Transportation And Development
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is a state government organization in the United States, in charge of maintaining public transportation, roadways, bridges, canals, select levees, floodplain management, port facilities, commercial vehicles, and aviation which includes 69 airports, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The agency has approximately five thousand personnel on staff and an operating budget of $2.3 billion. DOTD operations are run through nine district offices across the state. The current DOTD Secretary is Shawn D. Wilson, appointed in January 2016 by Governor John Bel Edwards. Louisiana Highway 40 (LA 40) is a state highway located in southeastern Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from LA 43 south of Montpelier to LA 41 in Bush. The route travels through the rural area between the parallel corridors of U.S. Highway 190 (US 190) and LA 21 to the south and LA 16 to the north. It connects several small population centers in Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes. These include the town of Independence, the village of Folsom, and the unincorporated communities of Loranger and Bush. LA 40 also connects Independence with Interstate 55 (I-55), the area's primary route to the New Orleans area. Albany is a town in eastern Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1088 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area. Etymology It is speculated that the name of the community is derived from the Choctaw word ''abani'' which means "to cook over a fire" in the Choctaw language. After interviewing many of the older residents and comparing their answers it was determined that the community was named after the nearby Natalbany River.
