Louisiana Highway 29
Louisiana Highway 29 (LA 29) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in a north–south direction from LA 13 north of Eunice to LA 114 west of Moreauville. The route connects Eunice, a city in western St. Landry Parish, with Ville Platte, the seat of neighboring Evangeline Parish. Here, LA 29 briefly overlaps U.S. Highway 167 (US 167) and LA 10 through the center of town. North of Ville Platte, LA 29 crosses Interstate 49 (I-49) and parallels that highway toward Bunkie. It then passes through a string of small rural towns, such as Evergreen and Cottonport, connecting the US 71 and LA 1 corridors in Avoyelles Parish. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is a state government organization in the United States, in charge of maintaining public transportation, roadways, bridges, canals, select levees, floodplain management, port facilities, commercial vehicles, and aviation which includes 69 airports, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Evergreen is a town in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 310 at the 2010 census. Evergreen is located east of Bunkie. History First named "Bayou Ridge", the town's name was later changed to "Evergreen", inspired by its beautiful, evergreen magnolia trees. The first store in Evergreen was owned by Alanson Pearce and was located on the Barbreck plantation that had been established by his wife's grandfather Marsden Campbell. The town was chartered in 1869. Mamou is a town in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 3,242 at the 2010 census, down from 3,566 in 2000. Geography Mamou is located in south-central Evangeline Parish at (30.634033, −92.418913). Louisiana Highway 13 follows the western border of the town, leading north to Reddell and south to Eunice. Louisiana Highway 104 (LA 104) is a state highway located in southwestern Louisiana. It runs in a west–east direction from LA 26 southeast of Oberlin to U.S. Highway 190 (US 190) in Opelousas. Along the way, it passes through the town of Mamou and intersects various north–south routes that service points along US 190 such as Elton, Basile, and Eunice. East of Mamou, connections are also made to Ville Platte, the St. Landry Parish seat, on US 167/ LA 10. Route description From the west, LA 104 begins at an intersection with LA 26 at a point southeast of Oberlin known as Soileau. It proceeds east for before crossing from Allen Parish into Evangeline Parish. Chataignier is a village in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 364 at the 2010 census. Geography Chataignier is located at (30.570834, -92.319089). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. History The name ''Chataignier'' is French and means "chinquapin," a small chestnut. Chinquapins ('' Castanea pumila'') grew abundantly in the surrounding prairie until the chestnut blight wiped them out. They are now non-existent in the Chataignier community.
