Louisiana's 15th State Senate district is one of 39 districts in the Louisiana State Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Regina Barrow since 2016, succeeding fellow Democrat Sharon Weston Broome. Geography District 15 covers northern East Baton Rouge Parish, including parts of Baton Rouge, Central, and Zachary, and all of Baker. The district overlaps with Louisiana's 2nd and 6th congressional districts, and with the 29th, 61st, 62nd, 63rd, 64th, 65th, 69th, and 101st districts of the Louisiana House of Representatives. It is the 20th-smallest by area and the 25th most populous of the 50 U.S. states. Gary Chambers Jr. (born August 5, 1985) is an American civil rights activist and perennial candidate from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A progressive member of the Democratic Party, Chambers ran unsuccessfully in the 2022 United States Senate election in Louisiana, the 2021 Louisiana's 2nd congressional district special election, and, in 2019, for Louisiana's 15th State Senate district. Early life and education Chambers was born and raised in northern Baton Rouge, Louisiana in a middle-class, predominantly Black neighborhood. The 2012 United States presidential election in Louisiana took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the 2012 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Louisiana voters chose eight electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, Vice President Joe Biden, against Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and his running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan. Romney carried Louisiana's eight electoral votes with 57.78% of the popular vote. Louisiana was one of six states where Obama did better in 2012 than in 2008, with his margin of loss decreasing from 18.63% to 17.2%. Mary Landrieu
Mary Loretta Landrieu ( ; born November 23, 1955) is an American entrepreneur and politician who served as a United States senator from Louisiana from 1997 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, Landrieu served as the Louisiana State Treasurer from 1988 to 1996, and in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1980 to 1988. The 2014 United States Senate election in Louisiana was held on November 4, 2014, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Louisiana. As no candidate won a majority of the vote, a runoff was held on December 6, 2014. Incumbent Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu ran for re-election to a fourth term in office against Republican U.S. Representative Bill Cassidy and several other candidates. John Bel Edwards
John Bel Edwards (born September 16, 1966) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 56th governor of Louisiana since 2016. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the Democratic leader of the Louisiana House of Representatives for two terms. Edwards was first elected to the Louisiana House in 2007.
