Louise Isachsen
Gusta Louise Isachsen (11 December 1875 – 11 March 1932) was a Norwegian physician. She was the country's first female surgeon. She was born in Drøbak as a daughter of ship captain Nils Høgh Isachsen (1838–1913) and Cecilie Marie Sivertsen (1839–1909). She was a sister of polar researcher Gunnar Isachsen. After attending Ragna Nielsen's School from 1891 to 1893 she took her examen artium at Gjertsen School. She enrolled in medicine studies at the Royal Frederick University, at a time when this was still highly unusual for women, and graduated with the cand.med. degree in 1900. She was a medical candidate at Rikshospitalet and Kristiania Municipal Hospital from 1901 to 1902 (together with fellow pioneer Kristine Munch), became interested in women's diseases and studied gynecology in Edinburgh in 1902. Kristine Munch
Kristine Munch (10 July 1873 – 11 October 1959) was a Norwegian physician. She was among the first female physicians in Norway. She was born in Horten as a daughter of priest Johan Storm Munch (1827–1908) and Kaja Michaeline Falch (1830–1898). She had seven siblings, and was a granddaughter of poet Johan Storm Munch, Sr. and a niece of poet and playwright Andreas Munch. She was a second cousin of painter Edvard Munch, and historian Peter Andreas Munch was a cousin of her father. She took her examen artium in 1893, enrolled in medicine studies at the Royal Frederick University at a time when this was uncommon for women, and graduated with the cand.med. degree in 1900. Drøbak
Drøbak is a List of cities in Norway, town and the centre of the municipality of Frogn, in Viken county, Norway. The city is located along the Oslofjord, and has 13,409 inhabitants. History Drøbak and Frogn was established as a parish on its own through a royal decree on 8 September 1823. It had been a part of Ås parish. Drøbak was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was merged with Frogn on 1 January 1962. Traditionally, Drøbak was the winter harbour of Norway's capital, Oslo, since in severe winters the fjord will freeze from outside Drøbak all the way up to Oslo. It had city status between 1842 and 1962, upon which point the municipality was merged into the rural municipality Frogn and lost its city status. Convalescence
Convalescence is the gradual recovery of health and strength after illness or injury. It refers to the later stage of an infectious disease or illness when the patient recovers and returns to previous health, but may continue to be a source of infection to others even if feeling better. In this sense, "Healing, recovery" can be considered a synonymous term. Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, milk rejection, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin.
