Louise Carrier
Louise Carrier (1925–December 26, 1976) was a Canadian artist, known for her body of work including portraits, and for her commissions for the decoration of churches.A Dictionary of Canadian Artists, volumes 1-8 by Colin S. She studied with Jean Paul Lemieux, Jean Dallaire and Simone Hudon and graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Quebec City (1942-1946). During her studies she met the young painter and sculptor André Garant, also from Lévis. They were married on August 23, 1952 at Notre-Dame-de-Lévis church and went on to have three sons: Emmanuel, Jérôme and Sébastien. She won several prizes at the Quebec Provincial Exhibitions. Lévis () is a city in eastern Quebec, Canada, located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Quebec City. A ferry links Old Quebec with Old Lévis, and two bridges, the Quebec and the Pierre-Laporte, connect western Lévis with Quebec City. The population in July 2017 was 144,147. Its current incarnation was founded on January 1, 2002, as the result of a merger among ten cities, including the older city of Lévis founded in 1861. Lévis is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Lévis. Its geographical code is 25 as a census division, and 251 as an RCM-equivalent territory. Jean Paul Lemieux
Jean Paul Lemieux, (1904 - 1990) was one of the foremost twentieth century painters in Canada. He worked in several different styles, as represented by his five artistic periods. Biography He was born in Quebec City, where he also died. He was raised in Quebec City until 1916, when his family moved to Berkeley, California. In 1917, the family returned to Quebec and settled in Montreal. From 1926 to 1934, Jean Paul Lemieux studied under Edwin Holgate and others at the Montreal School of Fine Arts. In 1929, he traveled to Europe with his mother. In Paris, he studied advertising and art and met other artists. Lemieux took teaching positions from 1934, first at his former school, then in 1935 at the École du meuble. In 1937, he moved to Quebec City and taught at the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec until his retirement in 1965. Jean Dallaire
Jean-Philippe Dallaire (9 June 1916 – 27 November 1965) was one of the leading artists working figuratively in the 1960s in Canada. He is known for his festive scenes peopled by macabre characters. Early years Jean-Philippe Dallaire was born in Hull to a large working-class family. He started drawing when he was eleven years old. He studied at the École technique in Hull and at the Central Technical School in Toronto between 1932 and 1935. Dallaire then studied briefly in Boston. In 1936 he set up his studio in the Dominican monastery in Ottawa and began his career painting religious subjects. That year, at the age of twenty, he painted a self-portrait that was later acquired from his estate by the National Gallery of Canada in 1972. Simone Hudon-Beaulac
Simone Marie Yvette Hudon-Beaulac (9 September 1905 – 5 August 1984) was a Canadian painter and printmaker. Early life Born Simone Marie Yvette Hudon in Quebec City, she studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in her native city, graduating in 1931 after study with Lucien Martial and H. Ivan Neilson. Career She succeeded Neilson in 1931, and taught engraving, perspective, interior design and illustration until 1945. She moved to Montreal in 1945 and worked there as a book illustrator. She won numerous awards during her career, and was exhibited widely, notably with Sylvia Daoust. She was a member of the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers. A member of the Canadian Society of Graphic Art, she illustrated the book ''Au fil des côtes de Québec'' published by the Government of Quebec in 1967 for the Canadian centennial in 1967. The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is an art museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Its permanent collection includes over 24,000 works from Canadian, Indigenous Canadian, and international artists. The museum also holds the world's largest collection of Inuit art. In addition to exhibits for its collection, the museum has organized and hosted a number of travelling arts exhibitions.
