Louisburg College is a private Methodist-affiliated two-year college in Louisburg, North Carolina. History Louisburg College has its roots in two schools: Franklin Male Academy, which was chartered in 1787, re-chartered in 1802 but held its first recorded classes on January 1, 1805; and Louisburg Female College, which was founded in 1857, succeeding a previous institution, Louisburg Female Academy, founded in 1814. Louisburg Female Academy opened its doors in 1815, under the direction of Harriet Partridge, making it one of the oldest institutions of higher education for women. From 1843–1856, Asher H. Ray and his wife Jane Curtis Ray were highly successful as principals of the female academy, which in the 1850s was called Louisburg Female Seminary. Kelly Heath
Kelly Mark Heath (born September 4, 1957) is a professional baseball player and scout. A second baseman, Heath played in Major League Baseball for the Kansas City Royals in 1982, and played in minor league baseball for fourteen years. He currently scouts for the Royals, and previously scouted for the Oakland Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. Career Born in Plattsburgh, New York, Heath attended Louisburg College, a junior college (JUCO) where he played college baseball. In 1977, he was named to the JUCO All-Tournament Team. The Kansas City Royals drafted Heath in the seventh round, with the 177th overall selection, of the 1977 Major League Baseball Draft. The Minnesota Twins are an American professional baseball team based in Minneapolis. The Twins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central Division. The team is named after the Twin Cities area which includes the two adjoining cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The franchise was founded in Washington, D.C., in 1901 as the Washington Senators. Mark Clifford Funderburk (born May 16, 1957 in Charlotte, North Carolina) is a retired Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter. He played during two seasons at the major league level for the Minnesota Twins. He was drafted by the Twins in the 16th round of the 1976 amateur entry draft. Funderburk played his first professional season with their Rookie League Elizabethton Twins in 1976, and his last with their Double-A Orlando Twins in 1987. Ralph Ronald Musselman (born November 11, 1954) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher for the Seattle Mariners () and Toronto Blue Jays (-). Prior to turning professional, he played for the Clemson Tigers. Musselman was mostly a relief pitcher during his career, but did pick up four career victories. David Michael Dement (born April 10, 1954) is an American college basketball coach who was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is married to former Southern Methodist University women's basketball head coach Rhonda Rompola. From Louisburg, North Carolina, he was the head coach for UNCG from 1991 to 1995, leading them from a team with no conference affiliation to the top of the Big South Conference regular season standings in just four seasons. In his last two seasons at UNCG, Dement's teams went 38–18, including a school-record 23 wins in 1994–95 winning the Big South regular season title. Bill Moran (pitcher)
Carl William Moran (born September 26, 1950) is an American politician and retired professional baseball pitcher. The right-hander stood tall and weighed during his baseball career. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, he attended Woodrow Wilson High School, Louisburg College, and Jacksonville University. Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the ninth round of the 1971 Major League Baseball Draft, Moran played one year in the Major Leagues, going 1–3 with a 4.66 ERA for the Chicago White Sox during the season. He appeared in 15 MLB games pitched, five as a starter, and allowed 57 hits and 23 bases on balls in 46⅓ innings pitched. He defeated the Oakland Athletics (headed for their third consecutive World Series championship that season) 3–2 on May 18 at Comiskey Park for his only MLB victory, starting the contest and allowing two earned runs in five innings.
