Louisa County High School
Louisa County High School (LCHS) is a secondary school for students of Louisa County, Virginia in the United States. It is the school for students in the county in grades 9-12. History Louisa County High School was created by the consolidation of Louisa, Mineral and Apple Grove high schools, opening for classes in 1940. The high school was integrated in fall 1969. The largest class in LCHS history was the Class of 2009, which graduated 358 students. The 2011 Virginia earthquake caused significant damage to the school. Following an investigation, the building was condemned. As a temporary measure, the high school students shared the middle school for the next several months. High school students attended on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while middle school students attended Tuesday, Thursday and every other Saturday. Mineral, Virginia
Mineral is a town in Louisa County, Virginia, United States. The population was 467 at the 2010 census. History Mineral was originally known as Tolersville, but adopted its current name when it incorporated in 1902 due to the mining industry that supported the community. It was the center of gold mining activity in Louisa County; during its heyday, there were fifteen gold mines located within two miles (3 km) of the town. A zinc and lead mine also operated in the area into the 1970s. Cuckoo, Harris-Poindexter House and Store, and the Mineral Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At 1:51 p.m. on August 23, 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake was centered 5 miles (8 kilometers) south-southwest of Mineral, at a depth of 3.7 miles (6 kilometers). The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national student organization created to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as business education. Odyssey of the Mind, abbreviated OM or OotM, is a creative problem-solving program involving students from kindergarten through college. Team members work together at length to solve a predefined long-term problem and present their solution to the problem at a competition. They must also participate in the spontaneous portion of the competition by generating solutions to a problem they have not seen before. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character.
