Louis Belanger (painter)
Louis Belanger (25 August 1756, Paris16 March 1816, Stockholm) was a French-born Swedish landscape artist. Biography He was a student of Francesco Casanova and Louis-Gabriel Moreau. After working as a landscape painter in several countries; including Italy, where he probably lived in Rome from 1780 to 1785, he returned to France, but was there for only a short time before the outbreak of the Revolution. At some point in 1790, he moved to London, where he exhibited at the Royal Academy and created works intended for making into prints. Hearing about the opportunities available for painters in Russia, he attempted to emigrate there via Finland, but was stymied by Russia's involvement in the war against France. He finally settled in Stockholm in 1798, where he quickly established himself; becoming a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and winning an appointment as a court painter. James Merigot
James Merigot (1760–1824), also Jacques Mérigot (or Jacques-François Mérigot II, J. Mérigot), was a French engraver and publisher who pursued much of his career in London. He was the son of the Parisian publisher Jacques-François Mérigot I. He produced 20 aquatints from John Warwick Smith's watercolours to illustrate ''Views of the Lakes of Cumberland, with twenty aquatints by James Merigot'' (1791–5). He also did the engravings for ''A select collection of views and ruins in Rome and its vicinity – recently executed from drawings made upon the spot'' (1815). Nationalmuseum
Nationalmuseum (or National Museum of Fine Arts) is the national gallery of Sweden, located on the peninsula Blasieholmen in central Stockholm. The museum's operations stretches far beyond the borders of Blasieholmen, the nationalmuseum manage the National Portrait gallery collection at Gripshom, Gustavsbergporclain museum, a handful of castle collections and the Swedish Institute in Paris (Institut Tessin). In the summer of 2018 Nationalmuseum Jamtli opened in Östersund as a way to show a part of the collection in the north of Sweden. The museum's benefactors include King Gustav III and Carl Gustaf Tessin. The museum was founded in 1792 as Kungliga Museet ("Royal Museum"). Gothenburg Museum of Art ( sv, Göteborgs konstmuseum) is located at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg, Sweden. It claims to be the third largest art museum in Sweden by size of its collection. Collections The museum holds the world's finest collection of late 19th century Nordic art. A highlight is the lavishly decorated Fürstenberg Gallery, named after a leading Gothenburg art donor, Pontus Fürstenberg and his wife Göthilda. Among the artists showcased are P.S.
